The passing of Toriphile Peter Cardenas, Jr.
Posted Thu, Sep 30, 2004 - 2:48pm ET | Toriphiles
I received the following message from loyal Dent reader Danny Quevedo:
My partner of 4 years, Peter Cardenas, Jr., an EWF passed away after battling with Leukemia since October 18, 2000, on 9/28/04. Please keep me, Danny Quevedo and his family in your thoughts and prayers.  There are many friends of ours who read The Dent and I cannot contact them due to emotional issues and others because I can't contact them, but I would like to know if you could post it on the net.

He wrote the article "From Iconer to EWF" in the Vol. 2, Issue 2 Summer 2002 of Little Blue World, and I have contributed with photos (I'm also posing with Tori after Ryan Seacrest's show).

Keep hurricane victims in your thoughts and prayers
Posted Sat, Sep 25, 2004 - 2:26pm ET | Toriphiles
I got this email from Nathan in Orlando:
Keep us Toriphiles in your thoughts and prayers as we prepare for our 4th hurricane in 6 weeks.  While this is history in the making, these storms have really started to take their toll on Central Florida.  I say we should all break out an extra bottle of wine and crank up "Mrs. Jesus".

Please keep all the hurricane victims this season in your thoughts and prayers, especially as Jeanne advances. I hope this hurricane season ends soon.

Remembering 9/11
Posted Sat, Sep 11, 2004 - 9:37am ET | Miscellaneous
Today marks the three year anniversary of that horrible day. The effects of 9/11 are still being felt by every single person. We can feel echoes of that day in some of Tori's music, as well as in some of memories of Tori's 2001 tour. Most importantly, we remember all the victims of 9/11, as well as the surviving family members. Please take time to think about them in any way you can today. In our struggle to deal with 9/11, we must never forget those whose lives were taken.

Tori part of a new celebrity cookbook "Star Palate: Celebrity Cookbook For A Cure"
Posted Thu, Sep 02, 2004 - 4:45pm ET | Merchandise
Update: I first mentioned this book a few days ago. Since then, Jennifer Clarke has pointed out that there is an entry for this book, Star Palate: Celebrity Cookbook For A Cure, at Amazon.com. Amazon says the publisher for this hardcover book is Documentary Media and the release date is October 1, 2004. (For some reason Amazon also says the book is available for shipping within 24 hours, which is possibly a mistake.) The authors or editors are Tami Agassi and Kathy Casey and the book includes 80 celebrity recipes, and includes a recipe from Tori herself! The book is also mentioned at netmusiccountdown.com, who tells us that Tori "provides instructions for glazed turnips".

MTV.com was the first to tell us about this book. Proceeds from the book will benefit the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research in Seattle and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in New York.  [Click for details...]

This was first revealed in a June 14, 2004 article posted to playbill.com. An August 23, 2004 article posted to playbill.com revealed that the name of the album containing Greene's cover of Winter is In His Eyes. Now, an August 27, 2004 article at playbill.com states that Ellen Greene's album In His Eyes, which features musical direction and piano accompaniment by Christian Klikovits, is now available for purchase at Greene's official web site at ellengreene.com.   [Click for details...]

Interesting comment about Tori's new album at mattchamberlain.com
Posted Fri, Aug 20, 2004 - 12:33pm ET | Music
Tori's drummer Matt Chamberlain comments on Tori's new album in an August 19, 2004 entry on his official web site at mattchamberlain.com. He simply says that he has finished recording on it, thinks it will be her best album to date, and mentioned that they tried to make each song as unique as possible. Sounds intriguing! The album is due sometime during the first quarter of 2005. Thanks to ShiseidoRed for first alerting me to this.

Take part in ToriForum.com's Happy Birthday Tori Card/Fundraiser for RAINN
Posted Fri, Aug 20, 2004 - 4:06am ET | RAINN
Elasia has told me about a RAINN fundraiser she is doing in conjunction with ToriForum.com to both celebrate Tori's birthday this month and RAINN's 10th anniversary. Elasia is putting together a "card" for Tori, and she needs your help. The *card* will actually be a professionally bound & printed book, and fans can send their own letters, drawings, and poems to Tori for a minimum donation to RAINN of $2.00. Elasia is taking snail mail and Paypal donations. To find out more, check out the fundraiser's web site. I know Elasia and trust her completely, and urge anyone who can to take part. The cutoff date is September 20, 2004, so you need to act quickly. Thanks!

At leonanaess.com, you can now listen to a new version of the song "Ballerina", produced by Tori Amos!
Posted Fri, Aug 20, 2004 - 4:01am ET | Music
I earlier reported that Tori produced and played keyboards on a new version of the song Ballerina, from artist Leona Naess. (The original version of Ballerina appears on Leona's self-titled album Leona Naess, but that older version did not involve Tori.) There were plans to release this new version as a single, but Leona herself has posted in the Diary section of her web site that her record company has scrapped plans to release it. However, you can now download for free this new version of Ballerina exclusively at leonanaess.com. Leona posted this in response to the requests of her fans. Once again, Tori produced the tracks and plays keyboards, but does not sing. Check it out! Thanks to marc silva and jennytalula for the info!

The Dent would like to report that Tori and family are fine. However, the people of Florida and Cornwall who were affected by these tragedies are very much in Tori's thoughts at this time.

Tori Amos Spotlight on Demand Music Showcase on Comcast Digital Cable during August 2004
Posted Fri, Aug 06, 2004 - 2:32am ET |
Jon, Colleen and Leenec inform me that you can watch a 45 minute Tori Amos Spotlight on Demand Music Showcase special on Comcast Digital Cable. I know this service is available in places like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, PA, but I am sure it is available elsewhere in the U.S., especially in the Northeast. Go to your menu, then On Demand, then Music, then Music Showcases and then select Tori Amos. The 45 minute show is called Spotlight on Demand Music Showcase and it promotes Tales Of A Librarian.  The show include an excellent interview along with the videos for Crucify, Cornflake Girl (US & UK), Silent All These Years, Winter, God, Professional Widow (TOAL Version), Bliss, Jackie's Strength and Mary. This is likely the same show as the Remixed, Remastered, Revealed show that is often broadcast on the Trio cable network. Check it out if you have it in your area!

imageIn celebration of RAINN's 10th Anniversary year, a new compilation CD was released on July 27, 2004 called For The Next X: A Benefit CD For RAINN. While Tori's song is available elsewhere, most of the other songs are either live, unreleased, or have seen limited release. Someone is again impersonating me on many various message boards
Posted Sun, Aug 01, 2004 - 8:26pm ET | Miscellaneous
Once again there is an imposter posting under the name Mikewhy on various online message boards, many related to Tori Amos. These posts range from homophobic and disturbing, to downright stupid. I can assure all the readers of the Dent that I am not the one making these posts. I do not regularly post to message boards because of a lack of time, and all the people who know me realize that I am an open minded person who would never post such content. I ask all of you to remember that faking a post from someone on any message board is extremely easy, and you should always be skeptical when you read such postings if they seem out of character. You should also compare the writing style of these posts, which sound quite immature and uneducated, with my writing style on this web site. If you have further questions, simply email me at mikewhy@iglou.com, and I will be happy to answer them.

New Tori Sightings: Tori names a seal rescued by the National Seal Sanctuary
Posted Sat, Jul 31, 2004 - 1:18am ET | Sightings
I have added a pair of new Tori sightings to the Dent, including a really interesting one from a newspaper in Cornwall, England called The Cornishman, which talks about the National Seal Sanctuary and a seal named Charlie, which Tori is reported to have named! The seal was rescued and is being release back into the wild.

Update: Christine pointed out to me that there is a web page about Charlie at the National Seal Sanctuary web site. They mention that Tori named the seal Charlie after the late Ray Charles.  [Click for details...]

Posted Mon, Jul 26, 2004 - 3:16pm ET | Miscellaneous
The film "Mayor Of Sunset Strip" is a documentary about LA scenemaker and DJ Rodney Bingenheimer. It contains some brief Tori footage. (Tori was interviewed for the film, but they do not show any of the interview.) Justin informs me that Netflix.com reports that "The Mayor of Sunset Strip" will be released on DVD in the U.S. on August 17, 2004. The Tori content is very minor, but I heard the documentary overall is well made. You can read more about "Mayor Of Sunset Strip" here.

Soul Circuit covers "Precious Things"
Posted Wed, Jul 21, 2004 - 9:22pm ET | Music
Mikael Jergefelt was the first to tell me about this electronica cover of Precious Things by an act called Soul Circuit. It appears on the act's 2004 Voluble album. According to the official Soul Circuit web site, "Soul Circuit is the solo music project of Brett Saltzer. It is electronic music with harpsichords, made using only a computer and digital harpsichord. It meshes together the classic Victorian sounds of the harpsichord with modern electronic sounds to create a unique new sound in music." You can listen to a clip from this cover at cdbaby.com
