Various tidbits about 'Sleeps With Butterflies'
Posted Sun, Jan 09, 2005 - 12:24am ET | Music
Doron Vidavski informs me that you can see a listing for a future commercial U.K. single release of Sleeps With Butterflies at Musicmen.co.uk. They say the release date is TBA. This would seem to point to a definite commerical release for the single, at least in the U.K. Stay tuned!

Erin O'Rourke emails me that on January 7, 2005, David Dye played Sleeps With Butterflies on the NPR program World Cafe. So the song continues to get good early exposure.

I have added all this and more to my Beekeeper Page

You can hear Tori's new song "Hoochie Woman" from The Beekeeper at the web site for radio France Inter
Posted Sat, Jan 08, 2005 - 1:00am ET | Music
The French radio station France Inter has played the song Hoochie Woman from Tori's upcoming album The Beekeeper, and you can find a link on their web site at www.radiofrance.fr to a Realaudio sound file with an entire radio show on it, including the song Hoochie Woman! (Click on the headphones.) The song is played about 10 minutes into the show. I hope they have permission to post this! Special thanks to Valérie, Angela and Shirley for telling me about this.

Read a review of Tori's new album The Beekeeper at MollyKnight.com
Posted Fri, Jan 07, 2005 - 3:07am ET | Music
There is a review of Tori's upcoming new album The Beekeeper at MollyKnight.com that is both very interesting and informative. The reviewer, who must have an advance copy, reviews all the songs, but does not give away too much about them. I have heard that this review has made many fans more excited about the new album!

A few new and minor details about the Special Packaging Edition of The Beekeeper
Posted Fri, Jan 07, 2005 - 2:57am ET | Music
A trusted source has informed The Dent that the Special Packaging Edition of The Beekeeper will be sold in a soft pak while the regular version should come in a regular jewel case. Also, I am told the special edition package groups the album's 19 songs into 6 different gardens- Roses and Thorns, Herbs and Elixers, The Desert Garden, The Greenhouse, The Orchard and The Rock Garden. To compliment this garden theme the package includes a "Beekeeper" mix of flower and plant seeds. We already knew about the seeds, but this sheds a little more light on the nature of the package. I have added this information to The Dent's Beekeeper Page

'Sleeps with Butterflies' should have a video soon!
Posted Fri, Jan 07, 2005 - 2:56am ET | Music
A source has told me that Tori will soon shoot a video for The Beekeeper's first single Sleeps With Butterflies. So the single will have a video!

The Trio cable TV channel in the U.S. will be rebroadcasting "Tori Amos: Scarlet Sessions" in early January 2005
Posted Tue, Jan 04, 2005 - 10:37pm ET | TVRadio
The Trio TV channel in the U.S. will be rebroadcasting Tori Amos: Scarlet Sessions several times in early January 2005. (Right now I see listings for January 6th and 7th.) This show has been televised many times, but I wanted to mention it again in case someone missed it. I do not plan to list all these repeats on the Dent, but you can check out the Schedule Section of Triotv.com, and then type in 'Tori Amos' in the Schedule Search box to find out the various dates and times when this excellent 1-hour program will be shown. The program is listed under the show name Sounds Like Trio, instead of the show name it used to have which was "Trio On Tour"

'Sleeps with Butterflies' off to a great start with Triple A radio in the U.S.!
Posted Mon, Jan 03, 2005 - 7:55pm ET | Music
I have a report from Robert telling me that Sleeps With Butterflies, the first single from The Beekeeper, has already been added to 15 AAA radio stations in the U.S. and has registered about 68 plays on those stations during the last week. All this, and the single does not officially go for adds until next week! I also continue to get reports from various Toriphiles of the song being played on local stations. Stay tuned...

The Dent urges all its readers to financially support the South Asia Tsunami Relief Efforts
Posted Fri, Dec 31, 2004 - 3:23pm ET | Opinion
The tragedy created by the Southeast Asia/Indian Ocean tsunamis is horrible and almost beyond comprehension. The death toll, which is over 155,000 people, keeps rising. My New Years message to you this year is to ask all the readers of The Dent to contribute to the relief efforts if at all possible. You can help those affected by the tsunamis and the humanitarian crisis it has created, by making a financial gift to one of the organizations listed below. (There are actually a very large number of organizations accepting donations, but these are 3 really good ones.) The first two, Oxfam and Unicef, are International and have forms to accept money from many various countries and currencies. Your contribution will aid in the massive humanitarian effort that is needed to bring relief and hope to all the people effected, and to help prevent the spread of disease and hunger. So as you go about celebrating the arrival of a new year, please take the time to help others who are living a nightmare and are just struggling to survive. Thank you so much.

More exciting details about The Beekeeper from The Tori Store, including the contents of the Special Packaging Edition!
Posted Thu, Dec 23, 2004 - 9:47pm ET | Music
The Tori Store at store.tbentgroup.com has revealed more details about Tori's upcoming album The Beekeeper, and has also detailed the content of the Special Edition of The Beekeeper. First of all, the store reveals that the song The Power of Orange Knickers features the vocals of Damien Rice! ( I earlier called this a duet, and I still think it will be something like that, but since the site did not say duet, I will refrain as well until we find out for sure. But his vocals are part of the song.) Secondly, the Special Edition version of the album, which the Tori Store calls the Special Packaging Edition, will contain "a Bonus DVD of over 25 minutes of interview footage as Tori talks about the songs and their origins as well as a unique glimpse behind the scenes at the photo shoot for The Beekeeper. The DVD also features the bonus track Garlands set to exclusive content from Tori's upcoming book, Piece by Piece, including photographs and text. The Special Packaging also includes a seed packet with a wild flower mix prepared especially for The Beekeeper." Finally, The Tori Store is offering fans a chance to pre-order either the regular version of The Beekeeper or The Special Packaging Edition. I have added this to The Dent's Beekeeper Page as well. Exciting news!

"Sleeps With Butterflies" is already being played by some radio stations in the U.S.!
Posted Thu, Dec 23, 2004 - 9:46pm ET | Music
Mel tells me that she has heard Sleeps With Butterflies on radio station KBCO 97.3FM in Boulder, Colorado! (As you know, this will be The Beekeeper's first single.) Jordy has also emailed me to let me know that NPR radio station KRCC 91.5FM in Colorado Springs is also playing the song! Jordy says that you can listen to KRCC online, and that the station plays requests between 9am-3pm Mountain Time, and the DJs often play Tori.

Toriphiles can play 'What's That Song'
Posted Mon, Dec 13, 2004 - 8:15pm ET | Music
See how well you recognize Tori songs playing this version of What's That Song! (Thanks Pamela.)

The Beekeeper could have 19 songs on its final track listing!
Posted Mon, Dec 13, 2004 - 5:25pm ET | Music
Update: I posted earlier about the fact that some unofficial track listings have appeared on a few web sites and forums for Tori's upcoming new album The Beekeeper which are based on information gleamed from advanced copies of Tori's upcoming book Piece By Piece. These track listings have featured 17 songs. I earlier reported that the number of songs on the final track listing would be less than that. I am changing that statement based on additional information, and now feel that the final track listing could contain up to 19 songs! Check out The Dent's Beekeeper page for information about Tori's upcoming new album.

She has just released her self-published CD, Pearl Diver on her website www.lisa-ray.net which includes her Japanese translation of Tori's Winter (The cover has been properly licensed for sale and distribution). The album cover was designed by Paulina Stuckey. Lisa's father is Japanese, and this Tori song has really taken on a personal significance for her. You can find out more about Lisa Ray and order Pearl Diver on her website www.lisa-ray.net

Posted Sun, Dec 12, 2004 - 9:40pm ET | Music

For example, you can hear a covers of Tear In Your Hand by both Frozen Inertia and Luke Myers. There are many more covers there, too many to list here. Check out the site and click around. It is really fascinating and fun to different people's interpretations of Tori's songs.

Some people are hearing the new Tori songs "Sleeps with Butterflies" and "Cars and Guitars" at promosquad.com
Posted Mon, Dec 06, 2004 - 10:47pm ET | Music
I posted a report yesterday from Toriphile Boris who informed me that you could hear a sound clip from Tori's new song Sleeps with Butterflies at promosquad.com. Since posting that, I have received reports from several other fans who were able hear not only that song, but another new song called Cars and Guitars from Tori's upcoming new album The Beekeeper. After hearing the clips, which are about 1 minutes and 45 seconds long, you can rate them, reportedly to give feedback to the record company. (Thanks to Vasilis Bibas and Yukito & Touya for being the first to confirm this for us!)

The process to rate the songs is a little complex, and not everyone has been successful in hearing the songs. You have to sign up at promosquad.com for free and then go to the Jukebox section and start answering questions and listening/rating music which is provided to you in a seemingly random and uncontrollable order. I am not sure how long you will have to listen before you will hear Tori, how successful you will be, or how long promosquad.com will stream these songs...

In the spirit of The Holidays, please consider contributing to RAINN
Posted Mon, Dec 06, 2004 - 1:23am ET | RAINN
Most of you know about the wonderful organization that Tori co-founded called RAINN. (The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.) Last summer, RAINN posted a special open letter from Tori Amos asking her fans to contribute to RAINN in order to celebrate the organization's 10th birthday. According to that web page where Tori's letter is posted, they have raised over $5,500 so far, which is still short of Tori's goal of $50,000. If everyone would donate $5, $10, $20 or more if you can afford it, we could help Tori reach her goal. Your help is truly critical. RAINN is there to help victims of sexual abuse, but most importantly, RAINN is instrumental in the education that will break the chain of abuse. It is by giving that we receive. Please pass this along to anyone who is a Tori fan or supporter of RAINN. I know we can help RAINN come closer to their goal, and at the same time make a gesture at the Holidays which is truly meaningful and helpful. You can contribute online at rainn.org or by calling 1.800.656.4673, and pressing 3 at the menu. Thank you so much.

Status of The Beekeeper
Posted Mon, Dec 06, 2004 - 1:10am ET | Music
I have updated The Dent's Beekeeper Page. There is one recent development I would like to address.

An advanced copy of Tori's book Piece by Piece is out there and there are reports about it floating around the Internet. Since this is an advanced copy of the book, it is quite possible that the final release will be different. Since I know that Tori does not care for unfinished versions of her work circulating about, I do not yet feel comfortable placing most of this information on the Dent...

You can now pre-order Tori's upcoming new album "The Beekeeper" at Amazon.co.uk and from various online Australian vendors
Posted Mon, Dec 06, 2004 - 12:41am ET | Music
I earlier reported that you can pre-order Tori's upcoming new album The Beekeeper through Amazon.co.uk. (Thanks Graham Thomas.) The U.K. release date is February 21, 2005, and if you pre-order the album using any Amazon.co.uk link on the Dent, you will also help to financially support this web site! This is likely the regular version of the album and not the limited edition we have also heard will be released.

I have also been informed by Daniel Nolan and Sarah Banks that Australian Toriphiles can pre-order the album from both sanity.com.au and at kdisc.com.au. It is not clear if this is the regular or limited edition of The Beekeeper. The Australian release date should also be February 21, 2005, although Kdisc is saying February 18th, which I do not think is correct.

None of these sites have posted artwork or the official track listing yet. A listing for The Beekeeper is not yet listed at the U.S. based Amazon.com, but it should be soon.

Tori's brother, Edison Michael Amos, passes away
Posted Sat, Nov 27, 2004 - 5:14am ET | Articles
Tori's brother, Edison Michael Amos, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2004 from injuries suffered in a car wreck the previous evening in Southern Pines, NC. You can see a story about this at thepilot.com. There is also an obituary posted at the Washington Post web site. He was 50 years old. I am so very sorry to hear about this, and my sympathy and thoughts go out to Tori and her family during this very hard time. Tori has released the following quote about her brother:
"Michael was the one that brought Led Zeppelin into the house, he introduced me to all that was great about Music... I will miss his presence on this planet, but he will forever be on my shoulder wispering in my ear 'energy energy'."
