The August issue of Record Collector magazine in the U.K. says Tori's "Best Of" album, due November 17, 2003 in the U.K., will contain 2 new songs!
Posted Tue, Aug 05, 2003 - 4:19pm ET | Music
Thanks to Brian Smith for the news. There's a small news item in the August 2003 issue of Record Collector magazine in the U.K. about Tori's upcoming 'Best Of' album. It reads (in full) "Tori Amos will have a best-of set featuring two new songs issued by East-West on 17th November". No word on what those songs are. Of course this album will be release by Atlantic Records in the U.S. on November 18, 2003. Stay tuned as we learn more over the weeks ahead about this new album!

Some details about the new radio edit for "Strange"
Posted Tue, Aug 05, 2003 - 4:15pm ET | Music
Yesterday I reported about a new a radio edit of Strange and how it appears to be the new U.S. radio only single from Scarlet's Walk. Since then a trusted source has shared the new edit with me, and I can report that the song is different from the album version. It has a new intro and some new instrumentation, as well as new background vocals from Tori. It sounds really different to me. I wish I was better at describing music, but I am sure that many of you will hear it soon.

Neil Gaiman Signs "The Wolves in the Walls" at Borders in New York City on Friday, August 8, 2003
Posted Tue, Aug 05, 2003 - 4:09pm ET | NeilGaiman
Neil Gaiman will sign his new book for children and adults called "The Wolves in the Walls" at Borders in New York City (100 Broadway in the American Surety Building) on Friday, August 8, 2003 at 3:00PM. Go to bordersstores.com for more details. More details are also provided at the Neil Gaiman web site The Dreaming. They say Borders will start giving out passes (like numbers) at 1:00pm. They will be colors, 50 for each color, rather then numbers. The first 200 will see Neil read, those after that will have to listen to him only. I have added this information to The Dent's Neil Gaiman Page as well.

Posted Tue, Aug 05, 2003 - 5:00am ET | Opinion

Therefore I am simply asking everyone to vote and tell The Dent how old you are. Thanks to Richard McKenna for the idea. Click (or look below) to vote in the latest Dent web poll!. It looks like "Strange" might be the new radio single from "Scarlet's Walk"
Posted Tue, Aug 05, 2003 - 2:33am ET | Music
Tori Mazur, Operations Manager/Music Director of radio station WNRN in Charlottesville, VA tells me the station is getting a radio edit of Strange as the new "radio" single from Scarlet's Walk. This of course will not be a commericial release, but appears to the song that Epic will promote next to radio. I am not sure if the radio edit is in any way different from the album version. If anyone finds out, please email me and let me know!

Tori is on the Shortlist Nominating Panel for the 2003 Shortlist Music Prize
Posted Sat, Aug 02, 2003 - 2:15am ET | Music
Update: I actually posted this bit of news one week ago. But since then, the story has appeared online at all the various Music and News sites, and people keep sending me emails about it. Therefore I thought I would move the news story up so that people could see it. Thanks to Brandon who first told me about this. Tori Amos is one of the artists on a panel who will choose the ten finalists for the 2003 Shortlist Music Prize, which honors the year's most creative and adventurous albums. The panel's initial "Long List" of around 100 nominations will be released in late August 2003, and the "Shortlist" of 10 finalists will be announced in mid-September 2003. shortlistofmusic.com says that the favorite albums of each Listmaker will be highlighted on the official Shortlist website, shortlistofmusic.com with links into Launch.com for streaming videos of all the nominees. In addition to shortlistofmusic.com, you can read about this on a news item at MTV.com. That article states that The Shortlist Music Prize, which went to Sigur Ros in 2001 and N.E.R.D. in 2002, honors adventurous albums that have sold fewer than 500,000 copies.

11 years as a Toriphile
Posted Wed, Jul 30, 2003 - 5:43am ET | Opinion
Back on July 30, 1992, I saw Tori in concert in Louisville, KY while she was on her Little Earthquakes Tour. I have been a Toriphile ever since. It is hard to believe that was 11 years ago today. Tori's music still amazes me after all this time, which is why I continue to maintain the Dent!
