THE TORI PARTY:
Within minutes of reading AP 120's Tori Amos cover story, I was
awestruck at the clarity and the passion used by David Daley to explore
the life and music of this misunderstood genius. Few have ever reached
the heart of Tori without questioning her sincerity ot that of her
fans. thank you for bringing me to the Choirgirl Hotel, only increasing
my excitement about Tori's tour.
Lyn Miller -----------
Why is Tori Amos on your cover? She has never been alternative - maybe
her personality, sure, but never her music. Musically, she is as
mundane and, yes, as commercial as those Lilith Fair women she hangs
with.
[Note From Mikewhy: I don't always comment on negative Tori comments, but this one reveals so much ignorance it is hard not to say..baloney!]
Lynne Francy ----------
I want to thank David Daley for his article about one of my two favorite
artists, Tori Amos. Tori has such strength; it's haed to believe that I
could be her, in all her crisis - from rape to a miscarriage to a love
long gone but still in the soul.
I didn't know that she had gotten married or pregnant. Now the songs on
"From the Choirgirl Hotel" make even more sense. Tori is a truly
beautiful human with a great philosophy on life (through thick and thin,
mind you), and I think we can all learn something from her "Tori-speak."
Amy McNamara ----------
I found AP's 120's Tori Amos cover story to be very well-written and
inspiring. I also enjoyed the very large photos of Tori. On a
different note, Json Pettigrew's review of Smashing Pumpkins....(and it
goes on to talk about that review which i don't feel is needed for your
site Mike ;))

Interviewer - Tony Romado
"I get a lot of reassurance from women," she says as we sit at one of the
tables crammed into a space that is reminiscent of a Hallmark shop, two leases
removed. "I'm very much a woman's woman. I think a lot of people mistake the
content [of the songs] as sexual, when they're more complicated than that.
They're about how you look to improve yourself, and the people that you hang
out with. I wish more women wouldn't rely on the old tactics-it's very easy to
make men want you" I tell her it sounds as though Tori Amos could be talking.
"Tori's an acquired tast," she says. "She's not conventionally, you know,
pretty, not always shoving her cleavage up and being photographed in a bikini.
I think we're alot alike."
She and I agree this is no way for a lady to act, unless of course,
someone were waving a dollar bill in the direction of a catwalk. And we both
agree that a woman can get anything she wants out of a guy that way. "Not all
men are pigs, though," she insists improbably. "There's a huge majority of
women who are pigs. A lot of women that I know are." |
