August/September 1998
Tori was featured in the August/September 1998 issue of "Link: A College Television Network Publication." The article includes a small photo. Many thanks to Autumn Hall and Jen for informing me. The article is below:

    "From the Choirgirl Arena"

We caught Tori Amos a few years back at New York City's Beacon Theater, and she shook us all night long--right down to our spiritual and sexual foundations--like, we imagined, Prince used to do when he was Prince. Now touring behind her latest, "From the Choirgirl Hotel," the Cornflake Girl faces the daunting task of connecting on a personal level in impersonal arenas.

Amos acknowledges that she's not playing "somebody's living room" anymore. And while she is performing a few acoustic numbers for intimacy's sake, the shows are, for the most part, "a buckle-your-seat-belt kind of thing."

"It's a girl on her piano that found some boys who she digs, and the wine is good," she says cryptically. Translation: You've gotta see the show because Amos has got a brand new band, which beats a solo, harpsichord-humping babe any day.

Check out Tori and her boys at these venues:

(it lists some shows from Sept 11 through Oct 10).

CNN Web Site Article
August 27, 1998
There is an article at the CNN website called "Tori Amos: Clearly In The Right Band" that was posted on August 27, 1998. It includes some recent photos and quotes from Tori. One thing she said that was really interesting was the fact that she is "drained" creativity and "I think I'm going to do a live record next. After 'From the Choir Girl Hotel' I'm not really in a place to pillage myself again. I've done that now and you just can't keep doing that without the circumstances to do that. I'm sort of a dry well right now."

Rolling Stone Online Interview
August 8, 1998
There was a good interview with Tori at the Rolling Stone section of AOL and it was later posted to their web site. Among other things Tori talks about the ice cream assassin!

XY Magazine
August 1998
Two Tori articles appear in the August 1998 issue of XY Magazine, which is a magazine for gay youth.

Circus Magazine
August 1998
The August 1998 issue of Circus magazine (with Korn on the cover) contained a nice full-page photo of Tori. There was not an article on her, but the mailbag section implied there would be in a future issue. Many thanks to Danica and Dolll for sending me the photo and to Lori aka WonderGirL and Niki for sending me the info. The photo is likely a live shot from the May 6, 1998 club show in Los Angeles.

Billboard Magazine
August 8, 1998
A review of the Jackie's Strength single appeared in the August 8, 1998 issue of Billboard Magazine:

    ROCK TRACKS

    TORI AMOS Jackie's Strength (4:04)

    PRODUCER: Tori Amos

    WRITER: T. Amos

    PUBLISHER: Sword & Stone, ASCAP

    Atlantic 8615 (cassette single)

Amos' critically lauded "from the choirgirl hotel" opus spawns a potential smash in the form of this ornate ballad. Revisiting the grand, piano-driven sound of her biggest hit to date, "Silent All These Years," Amos indulges in all of the complex poetry that's won the hearts of many. Wrapping herself in melodramatic string flourishes, she even gives popsters a strong hook to grab hold of. Who could ask for anything more? For the full Amos experience, don't miss her on tour this summer.

Rolling Stone Magazine
August 20, 1998
In the August 20, 1998 issue of Rolling Stone, there are 2 letters printed in the "Correspondence, Love Letters & Advice" column from Toriphiles in response to Rolling Stone's cover story that appeared in the June 25, 1998 issue. Special thanks to Annette and Ben-David for alerting me to this. The letters are below. In the middle of the second letter is a cartoon of a purple musical note with light purple and light yellow fairy wings. The background is kind of pinkish purple and yellow. There is an arrow pointing to the little note character with "tori" written next to the arrow.

"What a beautiful picture of Tori (RS789)! Not only has your photographer captured her physical beauty, but Steven Daly's writing has captured how beautifully her mind works. At a time when female singers are cashing in on the newest trend, Tori stays True to herself." -Becky Kowalewicz, Crystal, Michigan

"Behind all of Tori's lyrics lies a story a few of us can relate to. I am happy that here is someone who can pick herself up from the ground and begin her life. Some don't even get that far. Her secret? Remaining truthful and realizing that goodness from others is imperative. Thank you, Tori." - Raha, Jacksonville, Florida

Online Yahoo/TVGEN Chat
August 5, 1998

On Wednesday, August 5, 1998 at 7:00PM Eastern, Tori chatted for 45 minutes with her fans for the TVGEN and Yahoo Chat web sites. This was done shortly before her concert that evening in Albany, NY. Tori talked about several interesting subjects, and I thought it was a good chat overall. The most interesting revelation were the bside songs that Tori says will be on the new Jackie's Strength single.

To read a summary of the chat and/or a full transcript, go to my TVGEN Chat Page.

Details Magazine
August 1998
Ears With Feet Dink has sent me a really wonderful 4-page article that appears in the August 1998 issue of Details Magazine in the U.S. (Cameron Diaz is on the cover.) The article follows Tori during the closing days of her sneak preview club tour in the states, and it includes several good interview segments and a look at her fans. The article also includes photos, including a picture of Tori lying on the ground, covered in mud. The article was written by William Shaw. With so many clueless journalist out there, it is always refreshing to read an article by someone who does his research! Special thanks to TrenT for also telling me about this article, and to Colette Alexander for sending me the photo.
