I think this is the first time since Boys For Pele that a Tori album has been in the Top 100 of the Billboard 200 Album Chart after 10 weeks!

The album has also been designated GOLD (500,000 in sales) on the Billboard chart! An article posted to Billboard.com on January 14, 2003 said Tori Amos had sold 370,000 copies of Scarlet's Walk up to that point according to Nielsen SoundScan. Since Gold is 500,000 sold, the designation in Billboard must reflect the number of albums shipped rather than the number of albums sold. But it is still a good thing and shows that a true Gold certification by the RIAA can not be too far away!

Scarlet's Walk debuted at #7 on The Billboard 200 Album chart for the week of November 16, 2002 with sales of 107,000 copies. In contrast, Strange Little Girls debuted at #4 with sales of 111,000 in 2001. It must be said however that Tori's album came out at the same time as other strong albums. Had it been a normal week, Tori would have debuted in the top 5 easily. Here is what the top 10 albums looked like the week Tori debuted:

    1. Various Artists - 8 Mile Soundtrack
    2. Christina Aguilera - Stripped
    3. Nirvana - Nirvana
    4. Santana - Shaman
    5. Rascal Flatts - Melt
    6. Faith Hill - Cry
    7. Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk
    8. Eminem - The Eminem Show
    9. Avril Lavigne - Let Go
    10. Dixie Chicks - Home

Thanks to Robert Schrader, Ivan Zethnyx, Timothee, Robert Caraway, Marco Nieves, Jessica, Patrick, Kim Westervelt, Rodney DOuglas, Rocco Paone Jr., Clint Everett and Bill Weston for their help.

Indonesia

Luky Annash tells me the following about how Tori's Taxi Ride is doing on the charts in Indonesia around the middle of May 2003:

I'm in Jakarta, Indonesia ( South East Asia ). It looks like Tori has got a better spot light now in here ...... Taxi Ride is at #4 on the Music city radio station 105.45. It was an amazing surprise for me, cos none of her songs before had ever got in to that high position. The previous single a sorta fairytale only reached (if I'm not mistaken ) #23 on the same radio. Tori was nobody here until Jakie's Strength made some sounds on the radio, back in 1998. Since then, 1000 oceans was airing pretty much, Strange Little Girl ( both the album and the song ) made a pretty good chart as well. But I can say that Taxi Ride is the highest one. (The following week however, Taxi Ride fell to #12.)

** Radio and Record chart positions labeled with ** never showed up on the chart posted at radioandrecords.com. They were based on true airplay, but I think Radio and Records was taking a few weeks off for the holiday and did not print charts during that time. The positions for the weeks above marked ** are based on airplay stats from Mediabase that are used to determine the Radio & Records charts. Since this is the case, I am not sure if the chart positions for these weeks are considered official. I HOPE they are since Tori was #1 on the Triple A chart during that time!
