Amos Tackles Eminem
New album due in September, followed by solo tour
Tori Amos' forthcoming album, Strange Little Girls might be more aptly titled, "Strange Little Boys." Due September 18th, the album will consist of Amos' reworkings of songs by male artists, ranging from Eminem to the Beatles to Neil Young to Slayer.
Amos, who worked with longtime collaborator Matt Chamberlain and King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew on the album, has recast the twelve selections from the point of view of the songs' female characters. For example, in Eminem's "'97 Bonnie and Clyde," she sings in the victim's voice.
The album's first single will be an interpretation of the Stranglers' "Strange Little Girl," which will be released to radio in mid-August.
"I think it's a very difficult time in America right now for a heterosexual male," Amos recently told Rolling Stone. "It's driven me to do the project." Following the album's release, Amos will launch a U.S. tour that begins on September 28th in Miami and runs into late-November. The concerts will feature just Amos and her keyboards, her first solo performances in seven years.
