VH1 100 Greatest Women Of Rock And Roll
July 26 - August 1, 1999
VH1 showed the second installment of their 5 part series on the 100 Greatest Women Of Rock And Roll for the first time on July 27 and Tori was featured during the program. (She was #71 on the list.) Each 1 hour installment covers 20 artists in the top 100, so each woman gets about 2 minutes. For Tori, they basically showed clips from several videos and Tori's appearance on VH1 Storytellers last year. They included comments on Tori from John Popper of Blues Traveler, Ahmet Ertegun, Founder of Atlantic Records, Phoebe Snow, and Janis Ian. They also had a very short interview clip with Tori I had not seen before.
Tori was also shown briefly during the other 4 episodes of this 5 hour series talking about other artists. So Tori appeared in all five episodes! I have recorded what she said during those other appearances as well.

MTV Commercial For The 'Fight Back' Video
throughout 1999
Periodically over the last few months (Summer 1999), Tori has been featured in a commercial on MTV about a video you can rent for free from Blockbuster Video concerning teen violence , rape and incest. The video is called "Fight Back." Sarah McCabe says the commerical "started with the beginning of "Caught A Lite Sneeze" and then Tori appeared. She had very tangly hair , yet a very calm, soothing appearance. She explained that a video is now available to rent FOR FREE at blockbuster ('Fight Back'). This is a RAINN thing...she states that if you or someone you know is a victim of sexual abuse, that you can pick up this video and it will inform you of your rights. There was also a number for 'Save a Child' 1-800-4-A-CHILD, which is a child abuse hotline." The RAINN hotline is 1-800-656-HOPE. Toriphile Shaun adds, "The only time I've seen this commercial has been during the show 120 minutes, and I've seen it twice during that show. She's also wearing a blue sweater I think, and her hair is straight. The background of Tori is black."

PBS "In The Mix"
July 3, 1999

PBS aired in several cities on July 3, 1999 a special retro episode of a program called "In The Mix." "In the Mix" is an award-winning, weekly PBS reality series that gets teens talking about the issues that most affect them. The show often features teens interviewing various celebrities. In 1994, Tori was interviewed on the program by Melanie Glickson, and some or all of that interview (I am not sure) was featured on this special retro episode, which revisited some of their past shows. You can find out more about the program on the In The Mix web site which included photos from the Tori episode at the time of this posting. (The photos you see above are from the program.) Remember that different PBS stations can air programs on their own schedule, so different cities likely saw this episode on different days.
Toriphile Dave describes the Tori interview for me:
hey mike i have seen the In The Mix interview and actually have it on tape!
it's a UTP era interview where Tori is wearing that really neat turquoise
blue ring. The interview has cuts of the LE videos and the God video over
Tori talking. she talks about : getting over her rape and the importance of
the song baker baker in her healing process, coming out of her "rock chick"
era, her father and his beliefs and her own beliefs, and personal violence
and how to deal with it. When asked by the girl interviewing her what she
wanted to become tori said "I wanted to be what I'm becoming." another
favorite quote from the interview was"Ok, it's time to go shopping with
violence today, I think we need some shoes." At the end the girl asks T to
play Icicle because she thought it was so pretty and Tori plays a small part of it. All in all pretty good interview...
