Tori Amos Unveils New Platform for RAINN
Shoe Named for Singer to Benefit RAINN

Washington, DC, July 1, 1999 -- A new fashion shoe named for singer and songwriter Tori Amos will be sold beginning July 1st, with proceeds benefiting RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). The shoe, designed by Steve Madden, will be available July 1 at Steve Madden stores nationwide and at www.stevemadden.com.

Tori and RAINN's relationship with Steve Madden began last summer, when Steve Madden Ltd. sponsored RAINN's presence on the 1998 Lilith Fair Tour.

"Steve Madden has become one of RAINN's biggest and most committed supporters," RAINN co-founder Tori Amos comments. "When he and I sat down after my tour last year, we focused on two things: his groovy shoes, which I adore, and RAINN, the national hotline for survivors of sexual assault. What happened next? The Tori Amos Shoe for RAINN by Steve Madden."

"We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Steve Madden Ltd.," said Scott Berkowitz, president and co-founder, RAINN. "Madden's customers, teens and young women, are the audience most at risk of sexual assault and the audience RAINN needs to reach. So the partnership is perfect for RAINN. Plus, the funds raised from the Tori Amos Shoe by Steve Madden will help us to continue serving victims of sexual assault."

Tori Amos and Steve Madden will host a virtual chat party on Yahoo! Chat (chat.yahoo.com) to launch The Tori Amos Shoe for RAINN on July 14, 1999 from 6-7pm EST. Additionally, Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com), a global Internet media company, will host a charity auction on Yahoo! Auctions (auctions.yahoo.com) of autographed Tori Amos shoes, one in each of five colors. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Yahoo! Charity Auction will benefit RAINN.

Additional promotions for the shoe (including a contest, in conjunction with Atlantic Records, to win tickets to the Tori Amos/Alanis Morissette concerts will take place at certain Steve Madden store locations, as well as on the Steve Madden Website (www.stevemadden.com) and will be promoted through an online media campaign on Yahoo!.

RAINN, operates the country's only nationwide hotline for survivors of sexual assault, 1-800-656-HOPE. RAINN's hotline--a partnership of 828 local rape crisis centers across the country--has helped more than 270,000 victims since it was founded in 1994.
