You can currently order The Best of Soundstage-Season One DVD at Soundstage's Online Store. Of the 18 performances however, they only have one Tori song, which is a sorta fairytale. This is from her 2003 appearance on the show. We earlier thought there would be 2 Tori songs on this DVD, but that is not the case. Soundstage does not plan to release a DVD of Tori's entire performance on that show.

More Details

On May 2, 2003, Tori taped a live performance for the PBS TV show Soundstage at WTTW 11 studios in Chicago, IL. (Click here for details about this taping.) This episode of Soundstage debuted on or around Thursday, August 28, 2003 on many PBS stations. (The date and time varied from one PBS station to the next!)

You can still find a Tori section on the Soundstage web site where you can find some nice photos from the taping of the show and two small video clips. (Thanks Thomas Dixon.)

An anonymous poster had posted some beautiful screen shots from Tori's Soundstage performance on the alt.binaries.tori-amos newsgroup. You can see these posted at the always wonderful Click the details link for more information about Tori's Soundstage TV appearance.

Here was the official press release for the Tori episode of Soundstage. Thanks to Dan Stark for sending this to me.

TORI AMOS ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 28 (check local listings)

Nashville TN August 20, 2003 - PBS' newly revived music series SOUNDSTAGE will feature pianist/singer/songwriter Tori Amos, on Thursday, August 28 (check local listings).

Amos, one of the most respected artists of the last decade, is a unique talent whose distinctive voice, beautiful piano playing and thought-provoking songs have mesmerized and inspired a generation of fans across the globe. A child prodigy, who studied at Baltimore's Peabody Conservatory, her musical style brings together the very far left, classical, dance and rock n' roll.

On this episode of Soundstage, Amos performs songs from her latest release, Scarlet's Walk, including "a sorta fairytale," "Precious Things" and "Cornflake Girl." Written as a response to September 11, and the birth of her first child, Scarlet's Walk serves as an exploration of Amos' Native American heritage (her grandfather was Cherokee), and as a treatise on how humanity treats the Earth. Touring for the past year to promote the album, Rolling Stone readers recently voted her No. 5 in an online poll of top live acts.

SOUNDSTAGE is taped from Chicago's WTTW's Grainger Studio, using state of the art high definition video equipment and digitally recorded and mixed in Dolby 5.1 surround sound. The original music series aired on PBS nationally from 1974 to 1985, featuring such artists as Benny Goodman, Aretha Franklin and Bob Dylan.

SOUNDSTAGE is a co-production of WTTW National Productions and HD Ready. Producer/Director: Joe Thomas/HD Ready, Executive Producer: Randy King/WTTW National Productions. Line Producer: Nicolette Ferri/WTTW National Productions. Major funding for SOUNDSTAGE is provided by AllState. For additional information on this and upcoming SOUNDSTAGE presentations visit: or

There were several articles about this TV show in the press during Summer 2003. Soundstage was a popular music program on PBS from 1974 until 1985, when music video pushed it aside. The show has returned, and you can find an Associated Press article about the show that mentions Tori in many publications, including the July 14, 2003 edition of the Rocky Mountain News.
