From Mikewhy:

Atlanta was a strange experience, because we were sitting so far away from the stage. We were in the center in row U. Tori seemed very far away from us, but we were grateful to see that the Chastain Amphitheatre had two large screens on either side of the stage, which helped us to actually see what Tori was doing. Being that far away from the stage made it possible for us to see the moon, stars. and later during the performance, Mars as it rose very brightly in the sky. It also made it possible to see people as they constantly got up to get more beer or walk around. But I was largely able to ignore all that (including the evil lady nearby who chatted loudly the entire concert. Why pay for a concert and never even listen to it?) and concentrate on what was happening on stage. It was fascinating to see how the lights from Tori's stage shone on the crowd below or the large trees that encircled the amphitheatre.

Tori performed a really solid show, and did some rather standard songs in rather surprising locations during the show.

As the concert began, there was some really nasty popping and noise coming from the speakers. But her crew seemed to get it fixed rather quickly.

Before Cornflake Girl, Tori said hello and mentioned that Ben and her were commenting on how fast the tour was going and how much fun it was to play. Then Tori introduced the band.

Tori's solo songs were interesting tonight. She began with Crazy, which included a nice improv introduction, which has been standard with her. She then did two covers in a row, which were I'm On Fire and Nights In White Satin. Tori was really wailing at the end of Nights In White Satin, during the "I love you" part. It was even more powerful than the version she did in Cincinnati earlier this year.

Tori then did 5 songs that went really well together, and gave the concert a really nice flow. They were Horses, Tombigbee, Virginia, Father Lucifer, and Take To The Sky.

Tori began her first encore with God, and messed up during the song, singing the wrong part at the wrong time. Tori quickly got back on track, and at one point sang, "Tori, sometimes you just don't come through girl..." which was really humorous. This was followed by Mary.

The second encore began with Space Dog. This began with her "Andromeda" improv solo on the piano before the band kicked in. Then Tori ended the show with Doughnut Song and Your Cloud, which were unusual choices for the end of the show. I found Your Cloud to be a really effective closing song.

The show was quite strong, and I was able to enjoy it despite being very far from the stage!

From Cyndi S. Crawford:

*whew!* okay, as I write this, it is almost 1AM, and I just got back from seeing the wonderful, beautiful, incomparable.. Tori Amos at Chastain Park in Atlanta.

what a night.. what a DAY!

my friend Joe and I met at the Waffle House by the interstate, and I hopped into his car and we stopped to eat Chinese food before going all the way to the venue. we picked our way through, since Chastain Park is practically its own town. :P so.. we parked.. and when we opened the door, we heard none other than Tori doing sound check.

we ran to the closed gate and peered in.. and we could see her! she was wearing a pale white shirt and some bright RED pants.. that was quite fun.. so we sat around, and chatted with other fans (even tho we knew there'd be no meet and greet), and I had my little bag of presents from Joe and myself to her (for her birthday as well as her daughter's).. and a lot of the time, I was sitting and hoping that I could get it to her (and I still am).

finally at 6PM, we were allowed in. the ticket lady searched my bag (and didn't think to pat ME down as I snuck in a camera.. tee hee.. I'm SO bad.) of gifts for Tori and was like "you better not be sneakin' in no cameras." I was like "I'm not. *stifles a snicker*"

rofl.. so we sat there.. and Ben Folds came out to a damn-near empty venue since people were milling about, skipping the show, and getting merchandise and food, but he rocked. his stuff was very very good.. and he said a lot of good things about Tori especially at the end.. and I really enjoyed how he made the audience participate in the songs by singing along to his stuff.. humming along to be his backing vocals, etc. it was fun. :D

so finally.. intermission. we sat through that. it was bloody HUMID. and then the sun finally started to go down and cool off.. *whew!* only then did Joe and I quit sweating like pigs.. so, at this point, the best way for me to describe the show is to go by the setlist as seen below. :)

Wampum Prayer
this was pretty standard.. but we were getting very excited because this meant we were just that much closer to seeing Tori tromp out onstage and kick some ass. :D

a sorta fairytale
pretty standard too, but Joe and I both commented on her snazzy outfit.. it was like her clothes she was wearing earlier, red and yellow.. but long and draping and very flowy. we thought it was very pretty. those colors work on her quite well.

Little Earthquakes
when this started, Joe and I traded excited and happy looks.. this was one of the songs we heard her playing in sound check. :D

Sweet Sangria
.. and so was this one.. so we were kinda looking at each other and grinning.. but not really INTO it. I don't think we truly got sucked into the concert until after Cornflake Girl.

Cornflake Girl
this one ruled.. it got people up and moving, for sure.

Bells For Her
it took me a second to figure this one out.. but once I did, I was a HAPPY fan. VERY happy. :) she seemed to be pulling out some serious gems for me today.

Siren
as soon as we heard this, Joe grabbed my hand and said "this is SIREN!" so I'm like "what?... wait a minute.." and when I recognized it, I was just as giddy as Joe was about it.. it was a great song to play. perfect timing in the setlist, too.

Crucify
hahah! oh dear, oh dear.. I have to say that when this one came on, I was like "oh shit. OH SHIT!" and Joe was like "what, what??" and I just told him to watch and listen. it took him a second.. and when he realized just what this was, I was very enthused and kept saying "SEE!?!? it's so AWESOME!" another gem, definitely. I kept staring (or gawking, rather) at the TV screens while they had closeups of Tori. it was beautiful.

Wednesday
this was bouncy and fun. Joe enjoyed this one a LOT. I sat in my seat and danced like the silly girl that I am.

(solo)
Crazy
this was beautiful.. it seemed to slow the pace down a bit for us.. and it kind of calmed us down from that level of initial excitement and buzzing of the show.

I'm On Fire
I SO did not recognize this one.. AT ALL.. but Joe knew what it was.. I absolutely *LOVED* the way she ended it by breathing the last line.. "I'm on fire.." like she did. definitely seemed kinda suggestive like that, intentional or not. :)

Nights In White Satin
Joe and I both didn't know what this was.. but it was definitely beautifully done.

(band returns)
Horses
another great gem for the night, mostly because Joe was so happy to hear this.. and I always feed off of my friends' happiness, so to speak.

Tombigbee
DEFINITELY one of the big rockers of the night for me as it's one of my favorite bee-sides.. I was sitting in my seat, wanting to get up and dance and so on.. it was hard to sit still.

Virginia
Joe was in heaven for this one, I must say, since it's one of his favorites off of the album.. I thought it was great.. not one of the favorites that I was rooting for, but definitely worthy of the listen. :)

Father Lucifer
OH yeah, this was a huge highlight of the show.. it really knocked Joe over when Tori gave the finger during the "girls who never gain weight" line of the song.. (and I'd been waiting for it cuz I knew to expect it from the other reviews I've read) and when she did it, I cheered and hollered and gave both fingers back.. it was hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing till it was almost over.

Take To The Sky
I heard a lot of people clapping along while Tori slapped her piano to this one.. it was a VERY good crowd mover.

I Can't See New York
the lighting, as usual, was beautiful, and the song was as haunting and riveting as ever, however, at this point of the show, I started to notice that Tori's outfit was.. *ahem* kind of coming undone in the front and I wondered if she realized it. Joe noticed it too... heh heh.. ^_^;;;

Precious Things
AHHH.... when she sang "with their nine inch nails... etc", I swear I could hear the rest of the audience yelling along to the line. I know I was.. and the crotch grab was the climax of the song (if not the show itself).. and we all went berserk.

(1st Encore)
God
we couldn't recognize this right off, but when we did, we were bouncing in our seats like crazy with ecstasy, and singing along quite loudly. :D

Mary
I sang along to this one quite happily. I don't think Joe was as familiar with it as I am, but nonetheless, I could see that he was having a great time.

(2nd Encore)
Space Dog
this was another crowd-mover. some people were getting up and dancing pretty much throughout the whole show.. and some people in front of us kept standing up to do that.. so it was a great crowd-mover.

Doughnut Song
at this point, Joe and I knew that the show was almost over. we both enjoyed it a LOT, especially with the band playing alongside with Tori. it gave a very good and different perspective on the song..

Your Cloud
between this and Doughnut Song, I said out loud (pretty loudly too) "PLEASE one more, PLEASE one more, Tori, PLEASE, ONE MORE!".. and in my head I was thinking "play Your Cloud.. PLEAAAAAAASE.." so.. when she played it.. I screamed. LOUD. I screamed so loud that the girls in the row in front of us turned around and looked at me. I was THAT HAPPY to hear the song.. and it was the PERFECT closer. I was SO close to tears because my wish for the night had come true, and I was floored, and could feel myself trembling from.. I guess.. the shock of it all. that has to be one of the best feelings in the world.

all in all, it was definitely a night to remember, both for myself and Joe. we talked about it the whole way home. I'd definitely do it all over again.

From toriMODE / Ron:

Where I End and Tori Begins - Hotlanta Labor Day Lottapiano's Show

The first day of September, Kelly and I set off for Atlanta at 12 noon. After a few stops we arrived there thirty minutes early at Chastain Amphitheater. When we got out of the car, we heard Tori's soundchecking "A Sorta Fairytale," which was exciting for us, because we've never heard Tori soundcheck anything before. (got to hear A Sorta Fairytale, Little Earthquakes, Cornflake Girl, Sweet Sangria, Cooling, Rattlesnakes during soundcheck) We met up with David from the SouthEast Yahoo Tori group. I sold him an extra ticket I had, and I was suppose to meet Lisa there at Will Call @ 4:30, but she never showed up. Met my friend Tiphany for the first time, and had the chance to hang out with Michael/RedBaron for a few minutes before we finally left, after being there an hour, to get something to eat. We went to eat at Outback Steakhouse. We had eaten there a couple of months ago before the Dave Gahan show @ The Roxy. Afterwards we drove back to Chastain, which by this time was super crowded on the streets with cars and people. We walked to the bottom of the hill near the front gates. I searched for Lisa once more, and gave up. Finally met Marco, which was great, and also Michael/ January. Spoke with Luke and caught up with him. Then we got a water, and went to find out seats. I went up to Joel and gave him a binder containing a letter and my recent poetry, to give to Tori. We watched Ben Folds. He was a comically charming performer. He got the audience to participate in a few songs, and that was enjoyable. After he performed. I mingled with RedBaron, January, pianoguy/ Luke, Marco, and a few others, and then we went back to our 11th row seats, and soon after Tori started her Atlanta set.

The stage had a different backdrop than the usual On Scarlet's Walk tour. It was black with white Native American designs on it. It was interesting, but wasn't very good for when the leaf-face appeared on it throughout the show.

The piano, drums, and bass were visible during Wampum Prayer. No drapes hid the instruments on stage. Wampum Prayer set the mood for the usual Scarlet Show, and then Tori came out on stage. At this time the venue was dark.

Wampum Prayer

a sorta fairytale
Jon Evans on bass and Matt Chamberlain on drums, lay out a very mature sounding introduction to ASF before Tori comes out. The song sounds better than it has all tour, and Tori seemed to be really into it.

Little Earthquakes
Having heard it earlier that afternoon during Soundcheck kinda ruined it for me, but it was the first time I had seen Tori perform it Live, so it meant a lot to me. The imagery of the song is amazing, and during it I always think of the RAINN '97 NYC show's performance. Very emotional. Unfortunately, the girl next to me wasn't so nice. But I tried to overlook that, so I could enjoy the rest of the show.

Sweet Sangria
Also heard during Soundcheck. Still perfer this song studio. Tori loves to groove to it, so it's fun to watch her get up on her piano bench with the keyboards.

Cornflake Girl
Tori Amos introduces the band. Another sounchecked song. This song is overplayed, and I'm glad that newbies are able to hear it Live, but for this being my 9th show, it gets a little old after a while.

Bells For Her
What a beauty. Heard this Live in New Orleans '03, and I don't think I could ever get tired of hearing this. Watching Jon Evans on his stringed instrument, and Matt Chamberlain jamming lightly with the drums, and Tori singing "blanketttsssss"....just too beautiful!!! I really concentrated on Tori's enunciation of the words. Her performance is so captivating.

Siren
I predicted for this song to come out. I heard it once before at my first show in Birmingham '98, and it's my bestfriend Kelly's favorite song, so I'm glad it came out. The bass during it adds a very dark element to the song, and I loved it. It's a little slower than on the Great Expectations soundtrack, but it works very well. Definitely a highlight of the show for everyone!

Crucify
I crawl my way back to hear Tori do this wonderfully long sexy version of Crucify. Probably the best version of the song besides the 1999 performances. Tori really becomes possessed during this song, and it commands everyone's attention. I noticed a group of gals dancing to it towards the left.

Wednesday
Tori and the band seem to have slowed this song down a bit. It's the signal for the solo set. Anxiously people await....

This time during Lottapiano's, the Roadside Cafe sign is on the very righthand part of the stage, sitting sturdy on the stage itself. It lit up, but never lifted up.

Band Leaves

Improv/Crazy
Tori went into this very beautiful improv before Crazy. The only word I remember is "mountain," and I was thinking maybe this would be the intro to Tori's newest Scarlet's Walk b-side "Mountain," or maybe her cover of "Song from Half Mountain," but it turned out to be only an improv, but a beautiful one at that, which led into Crazy. This was my first time hearing Crazy Live. I just don't care for the song, and would have much rather heard something else, but it was a good performance of the song.

I'm On Fire
I called this one right off the bat. Kelly didn't seem too sure what it was, but I recognized it fairly soon. We heard this during StrangeLittleTour in New Orleans, so I wasn't all that excited about it, but it was the best version I've heard of it. On a sidenote, originally Butterfly was suppose to be played during this portion of the show, which frustrates me to no end, but I'm gonna be grateful for Tori's "fire."

Nights In White Satin
All I can say at this point is, wow, I made it through thus far without Leather! *whew* On top of that, I must say this was the most gorgeous part of the night. Tori's vocals were so powerful during this cover, and it was heart-touching. I wasn't very familiar with this song beforehand, but Tori made me a lover of white satin! The set list says "Knights." I'm wondering if that is a play on words such as "Rattlesnarks." I can't wait to hear an mp3 of bootleg of this song; it was the highlight of the solo set.

Band returns

Horses
Kelly and I freak out, much like how we did during the Birmingham '03 show, thinking this was "Doughnut Song," but turned out to be "Horses." We were a little disappointed, but we love the song, so we didn't frown long at all. Great version, but still prefer the Plugged '98 version.

Tombigbee
Gonna hang these bones out to dry. Kelly was hoping to hear this one again, and we got it. The crowd didn't really know it, so the audience wasn't as pumped as we were, but it was a lot of fun seeing it a 2nd time.

Virginia
I've been listening to "Virginia" a lot lately. I burned a mix cd after "Mountain" was released that I titled "In the Lush Virginia Mountains Mix." This is my 2nd favorite track from the Scarlet's Walk cd, and my 2nd time hearing it Live, so I was more than happy to hear it again. She seemed to be off a little towards the end, but it was full and rich nonetheless.

Father Lucifer
She did the Steve McQueen bridge, much like the 1999 version, but this version is a bit more relaxed. My 2nd time hearing this one also, and I sort of expected it after hearing Bells for Her earlier. Those two seem to hang out together often.

Take To The Sky/ Feel the Earth Move Improv Carol King dropped by in the middle of Take To The Sky, and it was a lot of fun. A few people in the crowd danced, and it was uplifting (pun intended). I was happy to finally hear this improv Live.

I Can't See New York
I Can't See Tori Amos for the people getting up during this song. I'm aware that this is the bathroom break song for the show, but geez, why do people feel the need to kick beer bottles down the aisle, while getting out of their seats? The song got my attention after having heard it 4 times before. Still a favorite part of the show for me.

Precious Things
People seemed to get anxious to rush the stage for the encores during this, which was a bit distracting. I had a good view of Tori grabbing her crotch during this. One of the advantages of being in the 11th row is that you have this view. I think all the guys with their girlfriends woke up during this one. No one can deny the intensity of this song when played Live.

1st Encore

God
After getting home from the show, I saw that this was originally suppose to be Bliss. During the band intro to this before Tori came back on stage I was thinking this was Pancake or Professional Widow, but it turned out to be God. Pancake, sometimes you don't come through, do you need a God to take over for you? Beautiful blue lights during this song. But like Cornflake Girl, Tori needs to let this song rest.

Mary
First time for me to hear "Mary" Live. It was a treat. I'm looking forward to finding out how Tori treats this song on her upcoming "Best Of" album.

2nd Encore

Girls in the Navy/Andromeda Intro/Space Dog The way that this song should be done. We heard Space Dog in Birmingham '03, and it didn't have the introduction to it, which it desperately needs. With the intro and the rest of the song, the song is perfection. Everyone seemed to be happy during this song. A couple making out in front of us, and some poofs dancing hand in hand in the aisle.

Doughnut Song
After Tori teases us earlier in the night with "Horses" when we thought it was "Doughnut Song," we finally get it. I was so grateful. I've been wanting to hear this song for a very long time. It's my favorite track from "Boys for Pele," so finally hearing this song that I've always connect to, made me a bit emotional. I was on the verge of tears. My eyes welled up, but never sprang a leak. Thank you Tori!!!

Your Cloud
Where I End and You Begin. The closing song of the night. Much better Live than from the album. This was the 2nd time hearing it, and I was kinda disappointed that it was closing the set, but it worked well. I was very sad to hear this song end, because I knew this would be my last show for a couple of years.

I've really enjoyed the shows, and the Atlanta Lottapiano's show was among the best!

From stuper venus:

we'll, my review won't be much different than anyone else, but i wanted to add that during God, when she should have said "will you even tell her" she said "god sometimes you just don't come through" and matt looked at her like she was insane, and then she smiled and laughed (i thought she was gonna stop the song completely!!) but then she just got right back where she was supposed to be.

From Pandochild:

I really really Loved this show! Tori seemed to be in top shape or maybe I'm just used to the scarlet sets. we were quite far away but the sound seemed so dam good and we were right in the middie. so I didn't seem to care. the setlist was wonderful! all the song I wanted to hear again she played. like I always wanted to hear Horses with the band. I wanted to hear father luicfer again Crazy and Virginia so not only did she surprize me with those but a wonderful Your cloud and Space Dog too. but the best was the Cover I'm on Fire that was the best surprize. Crazy solo was just heavenly and the earth under my feet bridge too Take to the sky was really rocking. and I also loved the little line at the end of Crucify can't really remember now. and a sorta fairytale sounded great too! so thats my scappy review to a great show.

From dana:

The audience for this show has to be the most rude, I've ever seen. Tons of people just getting up and walking out~ I wish Tori would have told them to shut up & sit down. Despite the Fact that it was nearly impossible to get good seats to this show, the pit was nearly half empty, from people just getting up and leaving. I originally had seats in box 4, but seat hopped up to 4th row pit, as did a lot of EWF.

Despite the horrifying audience I have to say this has to be one of tori's best performances~ she really put her all into every song. 2 wonderful surprises that night-I'm on fire & knights in white satin. I was talking with Joel about how great her performance was & he mentioned this to her. Her response was surprised, thinking that it wasn't a good performance judging from the crowd.
