I reported yesterday that Four Tet's 2003 album Rounds has a song called Unspoken that samples Tori's song Winter. This is even mentioned in a review of the album at pitchforkmedia.com. However, Eric Winchell tells me that the sampling is not present in the final released version of the album. It was there in an earlier promo release, but for some reason did not make it in the final cut. Thanks also to Chuck for verifying this for me.

Blue Wolf sent me the following passage from Flaunt #44:
There's a somnolent, familiar piano passage that loops 48 seconds into "Unspoken", one of the ten tracks on the promotional copy of Rounds, Four Tet's new album.
At nine-and-a-half minutes, it's the cornerstone of the album and the sample is the song's linchpin, punctuating the beat while supporting amorphous horn squeals and backsliding guitar licks. The sample, however, belongs to Tori Amos, and its replication has been strictly prohibited. "I sent her a package personally," emotes Kieran Hebden, Four Tet's sole architect. "The response came from the management, so I had no idea whether or not it was her decision or theirs. It's a real shame, though."
