You will find the following sightings on this update:
More Details'Winter" played on CNN during footage of the war with Iraq
in Colorado Springs, CO. I just wanted you to know that for my Winterguard show this season, we preformed to tori's "Another Girl's Paradise". If you recall, there was another guard in 1999 who preformed to "Jackie's Strength" and won 1st place at the National Competion. Unfortunately we never placed more than 2nd to last, but it we had fun doing it!! I was happy my team of 7 FINALLY let me choreograph the show to tori! The school's name is Pine Creek High School here in Colorado Springs, CO and we competed in the Rocky Mountain Colorguard Association. Tori mentioned in the book "The G.R.I.T.S. (Girls Raised In The South) Guide to Life" by Deborah Ford. Rose tells me that Tori is mentioned in the book "The G.R.I.T.S. (Girls Raised In The South) Guide to Life" by Deborah Ford. Tori is listed among the Southern women who make us proud:
Tori reference located at explodingdog.com Christian Hurley tells me that there is an illustration at explodingdog.com that has a Tori reference. It uses a line from Cornflake Girl. Jane Forman tells me that you can find another one for the lyric, "the only way out is to go so far in" here. Jane tells me that the way the site works is that people send this guy quotes and phrases and he draws them. So there are obviously some other Toriphiles who patronize the site. Adrian Brody on the Late Late Show With Craig Kilborne This sighting comes from Denessa Elaine:
The WB TV show 'Black Sash' shawn.the.little.masochist tells me that they played much of a sorta fairytale on a new TV show in the WB network called Black Sash on Sunday, April 6, 2003. shawn says, "They played almost the entire "A Sorta Fairytale" while 2 people were riding motorcycles. They cut some of the last verse so the end of the song would come when the girl rode off, leaving the guy alone." Thanks also to John Doe for telling me about it. The band First of June Mr. Zee sent me the following:
"The overall sound has echoes of "Little Amsterdam" from Tori Amos's Boys for Pele era, like Tori Amos with a lively acoustic band, but that seems like all too easy a comparison, because this group is so talented there's more going on here than that. This is a rich sound that this band could mine for a long time--I find it compelling listening. I like the quality of the songwriting a lot (lots of intriguing and allusive lyrics, and songs that can encompass shifts in mood) and how they put their sound together--the piano dominates and the quality of Vanessa Laurin's playing stands up to close listening. Her slightly smoky voice angles around the melodies, feeling more like a part of the mix of the tunes rather that riding them as Tori's does." Ben Folds mentions Tori onstage messica (da plastik glam grrl) tells me that she saw Ben Folds in concert at WPI in Worcester, MA on April 12, 2003. Ben folds was complaining about the piano bench that he was given. He said how he likes to sit on smaller stools so he can sit like this (then he made his weird half standing/sitting postion in the air). He said 'this is the way Tori does it, Tori Amos sits kinda like this, and anything that Tori does is okay for me' and then after a quiet hesitation he jokingly added, 'well... almost anything'. MTV's "True Life" HaleyFaerie send this to The Dent:
"I'm Shipping Out" 60 min. Young soldiers preparing for the war in Iraq are profiled. Additional Airings (I think the times are mountain time, but I am not sure!): Wednesday, April 16 - 4:00PM Thursday, April 17 - 9:30AM Saturday, April 19 - 4:30PM Sunday, April 20 - 5:00AM Jeff Kleismit also tells me there was a (minor) Tori sighting on MTV's "True Life: I Have an Eating Disorder," which aired at 10:00 PM on April 3, 2003. During the first segment of the story, as a young woman was telling about preparing her breakfaat and preparing to purge her meal, the instrumental intro to "Spark" was played in the background. Tori's version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" used in "A Clockwork Orange" Jennifer reports:
A snip of a review of the play in a local KC paper, "Pitch Weekly": "The play begins with the entire cast in a production number set to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - but Tori Amos' torchy version, in which the "entertain us" refrain is more seductive than demanding." Jon Farriss (The drummer for INXS) and Petra Sylvain sent me the following paragraph, which comes from Jon Farriss' diary in the "band" section of inxs.com:
Ruben Studdard, American Idol Finalist You can find an interview with American Idol contestant Ruben Studdard at idolonfox.com. One of the questions asks, "What album would your friends be surprised you own?" He replies, "Tori Amos". Thanks to Jennifer Scalf for being the first to send that to The Dent. |
