Tori Amos - Original Sinsuality Tour - Box Set (Sony/BMG)

It's a sure fire way to beat the bootleggers. The idea of putting six shows from this year's Original Sinsuality Tour on six individual double-CDs means that crystal clear quality recordings could be made available to fans to own. The shows covered are: Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, Boston, Manchester and London's Hammersmith Apollo from April to August of this year. Indeed, if you've ever been to a Tori Amos concert you will know why her live recordings are so sought after. Tori's voice is quite superb live and it's the best place to appreciate her breathy, emotional-charged delivery. Much of the material comes from ninth album The Beekeeper and there is much repetition of material over the six albums. The fun comes from discovering the differing vocal nuances at each night. Each double-CD contains individual cover versions that are exclusive to each album. Tori can instil hitherto unknown sensitivity into almost any song, even Bon Jovi's 'Livin' On A Prayer', which is performed at the Los Angeles show. That same city was also treated to a version of Tori's debut hit 'Silent All These Years'. In Manchester, the live favourite 'Winter' gets an airing and there's a cover of the Oasis classic 'Don't Look Back In Anger', just for the benefit of the Manc crowd. Tori does some great sparring with the crowd and there's a rather entertaining Morrissey anecdote. So, individually or in one Box Set, Tori is a wonderful Christmas treat. Tori's work is where so many of the current crop of female singer/songwriters get their inspiration.
