Tori Boxes Up 2005 'Bootlegs'
Barry A. Jeckell, N.Y.
Six live recordings stemming from Tori Amos' spring and fall solo tours of the United States and England are being bundled together in time for the holiday shopping season. Due Dec. 6 via Epic, "The Original Bootlegs" brings together a set of discs that were released separately earlier this year and sold exclusively online, plus one that's previously unreleased.
Amos opted for the intimate feel of touring solo this year, with the spring Original Sinsuality tour playing theaters in support of her latest studio album, "The Beekeeper," and then moving to larger venues for the Summer of Sin leg. Three of the "bootlegs" (Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles) come from April, while two come from a June trip to her adopted home of England (London, Manchester). All have been sold through Toriamosbootlegs.com.
New to this package is a previously unavailable Aug. 21 recording from a Boston stop. According to Amos' official Web site, fans who have purchased the first five "bootlegs" will receive the sixth and a box set case to hold them all as a free bonus.
While each show opens with "The Beekeeper" track "Original Sinsuality," the similarities end there. Owing to her penchant for inventive covers, the run of the box finds the artist taking on songs by Jim Croce ("Operator"), Bon Jovi ("Livin' on a Prayer"), Oasis ("Don't Look Back in Anger"), Jules Shear ("All Through the Night"), Leonard Cohen ("Suzanne"), A Flock Of Seagulls ("I Ran"), Madonna ("Like a Prayer"), Joni Mitchell ("Circle Game"), George Michael ("Father Figure"), Bonnie Tyler ("Total Eclipse of the Heart") and Aerosmith ("Dream On").
