From Matt Page:

Tonight's show in Cleveland was Tash's birthday celebration, and that made it a fun night! The fun started early with The Like dedicating a song to Tash. Several members of the audience dressed as Star Wars characters and so did most of Tori's crew. Even Tori's husband Mark was dressed up! There was some kind of crew costume contest before the show as well.

The stage was decorated with a Star Wars motif and there were balloons that spelled out Tash that were in a rainbow over the stage. Tori had a robe on when she took the stage and appeared to be princess Leia. After Space Dog, Tori said that last time she was in Cleveland, it shielded her from the blackout in Detroit and that magical things always happen there. Then Tash was brought out on stage. She looked adorable and was dressed like Padme. The entire crowd sang Happy Birthday to her. Tash told the crowd, "Thanks for coming to my party" which must have been really cute.

Tori did beautiful improvs before Horses and Liquid Diamonds. She told the audience before the Piano Bar segment that she was going to do songs that *she* wanted to do tonight.

Tori sounded beautiful, was hitting the high notes., and Matt said she seemed to really put her heart into the show.

From Matt Marzi:

Tonight was my first Tori Amos concert, and definitely an interesting an experience! From the Darth Vader balloons to Tash's Princess Amidala outfit, this concert was a Star Wars extravaganza. But it also had a lot of mother/daughter themes running throughout which made for manyemotional performances.

Her voice sounded phenomenal tonight on "Space Dog" and "Rocket Man", and "Horses" was an intense experience with the red and white lighting. "Playboy Mommy", "Spark" and "Winter" were all obvious tributes to Tori's motherhood, with "Playboy Mommy" being especially heartwrenching.

Tori even brought out Tash is her full Star Wars costume, and Tash thanked everyone for coming toher birthday party. She threw some Star Wars toys intothe audience andTori silently thanked the audience for helping make her daughter's big night special. She then performed a beautiful rendition of "Ribbons Undone".

Tori closed with "Liquid Diamonds" and "Hey Jupiter", and left the crowd speechless. The rain couldn't even compare to the tears of numerous fans that were truly touched by Tori's emotional concert tonight.

From Josh:

Let me first start by saying Any Tori show is a good show, and im sick of people bitching about setlists get over it...if it bothers you that much dont buy a ticket.

The show was very relaxed yet fun, As everyone knows it was Tash's birthday party tonight. After the whole crowd sang happy birthday Tash thanked us for coming to her party, and as she ran off stage Tori gave us a very heartfelt silent "thank you". it was sweet. and Tori did ribbons undone afterwards which was appropriate.

The highlight of the show for me was actually the improv before space dog in which Tori sang about the next door neighbor knocking on her door. It was haunting and beautiful. The best songs for me were Horses, Mr. Zebra and Liquid diamonds. Something tells me liquid diamonds wasn't on the original setlist because I noticed Tori lookin in the piano at what I assume was the set list and she kept refferring to the rain that was coming down quite hard.

The only complaint I have is the final song...... While hey jupiter is one of my favorites, it seemed to be forced, like ok...i'll sing this one again tonight, and it sounded like she couldn't choose between the original and dakota....it was kind of running together, just disappointing....would have rather heard twinkle or 1000 oceans

Overall it was a good show, not the best this tour but im glad I was there........but the empty seat next to me made me sad, if your reading this my friend, Thank you and I love you.

From Heather:

I wanted to let you know how great the Cleveland show was last night. Honestly, the set list was probably one of the best I've ever heard. Cooling, Cool on Your Island, and Goodbye Pisces were all amazing and beautiful, I was so happy to hear them.

But the highlight to the show had to be when Tash came out on stage. She was absolutely adorable. She sat on the piano bench next to her mother and said into the microphone "thank you for coming to my birthday party"... you could tell she was a little shy and saying what her mother was prompting her to say. She then said "now I have some Star Wars pictures for you" and threw a few things out to the crowd. Everything was lit up and the whole audience sang Tash "Happy Birthday." I took several pictures of how the stage was set up. My camera decided to break just before Tori came out, but started working again right as we were singing "Happy Birthday," so I have one very cute picture of Tash and Tori. (They're digital, so I'll try to send them to you soon.)

Anyway, last night was absolutely amazing, and probably one of the best shows I've ever been to! I'm just so thrilled that I went to probably 2 of the best shows on this tour - one where I got to meet Neil Gaiman and last night at Tash's birthday party!

From Susan:

We arrived from Pittsburgh at around 12:30 pm and joined the soaking wet line for the meet and greet. My friend Amber and I were numbers 20 and 21. The people at the venue were nice enough to give us ponchos, but I was still super wet and cold almost immediately. We sat around waiting until about 3 when we saw Tori's bus arrive. A few fans crossed the street to see if she was really on the bus, and yes, Tori, Tash, and Smitty got off the bus. We all stood up, assuming that someone would soon come out and tell us if she would come out (or, we were hoping that maybe we could come into the venue and meet her out of the rain). So we stood. And finally, about 40 minutes later, Smitty came out and said there would be no meet and greet. This was a huge bummer... as I was also at the Camden meet and greet (actually in the first 10 people to arrive) that was cancelled at the last minute, after we were all standing in the barricades. I understand the circumstances, in fact I was pretty sure that the M&G would be cancelled, but I was definitely annoyed that it took Smitty so long to come out and let us know. They saw us waiting in the rain (they drove right past us!) and I think it would have been more courteous to just come right out and let us know so we could go dry off.

After the meet and greet, my friend and I went to the nearby mall and bought new pants - like I said, we were literally soaked. We finally made it back to the amphitheatre for the show. The venue was definitely the worst I have ever been to. The folding chairs were quite uncomfortable and I had to shift around in my seat a lot during the show - usually I find myself sitting dead still, taken in by Tori. I hate to complain, but if I had the choice to do it over again I wouldn't have gone to this show. This was my fourth (and final) show for the tour (I went to Portsmouth, Baltimore & Philadelphia) and I was really disappointed to only hear one new song (outside of the Piano bar) - Hey Jupiter. Every other song I had heard performed at least once at one of the other 3 shows I had recently attended. I can't help but feel that I had bad luck this tour - she's been playing so many incredible setlists and I've seemed to have just missed them! Also - 2 out of 3 meet and greets being cancelled - that's rough. It was very cute to see Tash... but I would have much rather seen Tori play more varied songs like "Sugar", "Siren", "Marys of the Sea", "Blood Roses"... the list goes on.

In all, after paying over $200 for tickets, driving over 40 hours round trip, and waiting in the sun and rain, this tour has certainly been memorable for me. Despite my complaints I will be attending as many shows as possible next time she tours (except this time I'm going to Canada!!)

From Marisa:

I hope I don't get a huge back lashing for this but this show was by far the worst Tori show I've ever seen! I'm a huge fan and have seen her numerous times before but I was really disappointed with the set list and the overall energy (or lack there of) of last night's concert.

The highlight for me was seeing Tash come out on stage and thanking everyone to be at her party. We all sang happy birthday and then she threw some stuffed animals into the audience and ran off stage.

I don't know if Tori was playing safe with the songs she was picking because of her daughter, but there was even a total lack of emotion. Tori would hold these really long notes (vocally) almost to the point of out of key and what seemed at one time, almost throwing herself off tempo. She didn't even wow us with some magnificent piano playing, other than space dog. Just as I was hearing Hey Jupiter, the last song of the evening I wanted to hear more but then the show was over.

I'm sorry to be such a grump about this concert because I was really hoping to be "wowed" last night....I didn't get wow I was hoping for.

From Aimee:

Hello, I wanted to send you my review and thoughts of Tori's Cleveland show last night. Its a little short and a little grumpy, I must warn you :)

I really enjoyed the show, not my favorite, but Tash's birthday party was definitely worth seeing. Anytime Tori and Star Wars blends is a good time. I had a feeling the songs were going to be a bit "gentler", as in, "more Tash appropriate" - so I was really surprised when she played Icicle. Highlights for me were Winter, Cool on Your Island, Icicle, and Hey Jupiter. It was a chilly, rainy evening, so the "Cooling" songs mentioning rain or snow or ice were quite appropriate. The only thing that seemed to be missing was Northern Lad "because of the rain..."

The thing I didn't like about the show was the crowd. It was rather sparse and rather rude. There were so many people walking around, getting in and out of their seats several times, jumping over rows of seats, standing and taking pictures several times, and basically being completely rude to the other concertgoers. I couldn't believe their behavior! I had to spend a few songs staring at the girl in front of me lick cheese out of a cup. Tori sang absolutely beautiful songs last night, and I wish I could have enjoyed most of it, instead of putting up with this barrage of interruptions.

From Amy (LauraPalmer):

Last night was amazing!! My tickets got upgraded and my friend and I were in the front row in the center.

The opening acts (The Like and The Ditty Bops) were the best opening acts that Tori has ever had. They were both original and entertaining.

I'm only going to add a few things to the other reviews:

Before Horses, Tori did an amazing improv. It was so long that I thought it was a new song. I remember lyrics about werethe four horseman. She also did an improv about the rain washing her soul before Liquid Diamonds and one other improv that I am forgetting right now. I felt like she stretched many of the songs out and was really into them.

Tash was so cute. She seemed very at ease on the stage and looked so cute climbing up onto Tori's piano bench. My friend caught the Storm Trooper that Tash threw out into the audience (we have joint custody).

It was a very special night for me and very emotional. It is the anniversary of my father's death and had alot of meaning to me. As bizarre and freakish as this sounds - I really felt a connection with Tori last night and it helped me to get through a difficult day.

From Jim:

The rain may have kept a few people away from Cleveland last night, but it was still an amazing show. (It amazes me that I've seen Tori only four times - 3 in Cleveland and once in Atlanta and everytime it has either rained or snowed!)

In my opinion, the show was fabulous. Tori rocked on Space Dog, going back and forth between the Bosey and the Hammond. Tash came out to thank everyone for coming to her party and to throw Star Wars plush at the audience. Tori's version of Ribbons Undone after Tash left the stage was absolutely beautiful. It was as though she was sining it right to her daughter. Playboy Mommy was extremely intense - the best I've ever heard.

Tori said at the beginning of the piano bar segment that these were songs that she wanted to do, which was fine by me. She started out by saying that the world has gone to pieces and the weather is crazy, then she started singing My Favorite Things. Rocket Man was truly amazing. For my seat, it looked as though Tori was singing right at me and I just could not stop staring at her face during this song. It was so intense and powerful.

Three drunk ladies finally took their seats in front of me during Jamaica Inn, so from that point on I had to try to tune out the extremely loud talking and laughing from them. I'm sorry, but if you plan on talking during a concert, please go to the back of the venue where you can keep getting your beer and smoking your cigarettes so the peole who actually go to the show for the music can enjoy it. (Sorry, had to vent for a minute.)

I was happy to hear Icicle during the first encore, it was phenomenal.

All in all, the concert was good. I got to hear songs I've never heard before and I got to help celebrate with Tash on her 5th birthday. (The girl is so lucky to have such an amazing mom!)

From Renee:

This was the 9th time I have seen Tori perform live. I loved the show and the arena. I spent the whole day there, first standing out in the rain like a true die hard Tori fan for 3 hours. I didn't figure she would do a meet and greet in the pouring rain, but I had to wait just in case.

The crowd there was not a typical Tori crowd at all and made me wonder if Q104, the "adult alternative station that plays a total of 2 Tori songs" gave a way a crap load of tickets.

The seats were the best I ever had in the 12th row, but did that mean I could see? NO! The crowd was so rude talking all through the first two opening bands, The like was really good. I didn't care much for the Ditty Bops, but still we owed them our respect to shut up and listen to them. There was a giant man sitting in front of me weaving and bobbing all night , I had to constantly turn my head to catch a glimpse of her, the only time I could see was when he frequently got up to get beer. In fact in my entire section it seemed like that was the only thing people were there to do was to get up, drink and pee. I was up and down the whole night as I had a seat near the aisle.

Before the show started Star Wars characters passed out Darth Vader party favors and balloon shaped light sabers. Tash came out with her Nanny who was dressed like Princess Leigh, Tash was dressed like a mini storm trooper.

Then the crew members were awarded prizes for the best costume.

During the show Tash was in a different costume all together, see above reviews.

I was thrilled to see her do so many songs from Choirgirl. They were very different from when she was on tour with those since there was no band this time.

I also enjoyed Liquid Diamonds and Winter.

We met some very nice people from Indianapolis under the bridge and from Pittsburgh, but we are not going to another outdoor Tori show in Cleveland. People had their little kids sitting on booster seats so high we short folks could not even see.

It was definitely worth it as I am obsessed with Tori and her music is always inspiring but disappointed with the attitude of the "fans".

From Jim Mathers:

On August 30 I saw Tori perform at the Tower Amphitheater in Cleveland, the same place I saw her two years. At that time there was a city wide power failure and you could not drink the water. This time the hurricane moved north and there were heavy downpours all afternoon and evening. I had planned on coming from Pittsburgh that day and going home the next day. I spent 40 years of my life in Cleveland and moved away 24 years ago. My wife decided to come along and we spent the weekend retracing our lives seeing people we had not seen in years. We discovered how much these places and people were still a part of us.

The night before the concert I visited the Barnes and Noble bookstore near our hotel. Sure enough the girl in the record department was a Toriphile and we had a long conversation. She was in the process of reading Tori's book and seemed to know as much about Tori as I did. I mentioned the concert the next night and she did seem to know anything about it. It was obvious she wanted to go. Being in a humanitarian mood (or should I say a toritarian mood) I offered to take her. This took some guts since my wife was wondering around the store. She said she had to work that night. After we finished our conversation and was walking away, I looked back at her and for a moment I saw in her eyes such sadness it almost made you want to cry!

This was my only time I seen Tori on this tour. The tour started way back when with $250 for front row seats. Tori must of gotten lonely on the stage and a month later they were giving away free upgrades for these seats. By this concert half the audience took front row seats by simply walking up to the front at some mystical part of the show and stood there.

Rain was heavy when I first got to the amphitheater and there at 3:00 PM was no social gatherings going on. At 6:30 they opened the gates and the rain let up some. For an hour I was in my glory meeting other fans as I did at the other 10 concerts I attended. This time it was different. People were running around in Star Wars costumes and there seemed to be a festive air. At 7:30 the first band came out and after they finished second band came out. Both bands were in Star Wars costumes. In previous concerts the opening band came out and there was about and hour wait before Tori came out at 9:00 PM. This time there was only a short gap between the bands and Tori. I had only a short time to talk to the pretty girl sitting next to me. She was from Wooster, OH. I saw a lot of pretty things in Cleveland that I wanted to take home with me. The problem is that they have two arms, legs and long hair. My wife will kill me!

Tori and her daughter were our in quick procession, Happy Birthday was sung, and Tori was into her concert. There was an definite effort to keep the sound level at a very enjoyable level, even with the bands performing. There was no attempt at the 90 db levels of previous concert I been to. Tori introduced "These Are Some of My Favorite Things" saying it helps her in those sad moments. During the song, my thoughts were on my wife's wheelchair in the back of my xB and on my daughter's electric wheelchair, a product of her 1.5 year stay in the hospital. I broke out into tears. Life is nor always as you want it. Tori can still tap into my emotions.

Two years ago I got into "Dead Like Me", a two year series on Showtime. This series was about a group of grim reapers who meet each morning in a German waffle house and arrange to take the souls of those to die that day. The "Dead Like Me" fans are about as fanatic as the Tori fans. Tori's "The Bee Keeper" is right out of that series. This concert was in many ways like a church service with a church organ, the congregation standing at the right time. The Bee Keeper was like the processional hymn. For me Bee Keeper was too real. On our travels though Cleveland we went to my in-laws grave. My wife pointed out our lots. At 64 you realize life's not infinite. "Do you know who I am? I am the one who taps you on the shoulder when it is your time. Don't be afraid, I promise that she will awake tomorrow somewhere.. When I see these at those lots at the cemetery in my mind, I am not afraid.

Tori sang till past 11:PM and then it as over. I did not want it to end and felt a deep sadness and loneliness as I left the concert. to go on with life. But the rain kept on falling.

After it as all said and done, I realized that the Tori concerts in my life are as much a part of me and all those places I visited on my weekend in Cleveland. Another two years, it will all start up again and a new album, a new tour, and the cycle of life will repeat itself. I will be there.
