From Richard G. and Eric: The encores were suppose to be Tear In Your Hand and Frog On My Toe for the first encore and then Goodbye Pisces and Cooling for the second encore according to the written set list that Tori always composes before the show. The venue tonight was really amazing. It felt more like a garden party, with a stage set up outside and a beautiful mansion in the background. Tori performed several improvs tonight. One before Martha's Foolish Ginger mentioned not knowing the people there very well. The improvisation before Martha's Foolish Ginger was very very pretty and emotional - and seemed quite long, maybe about two minutes... Eric heard something like "I don't know you very well. But I can feel you in here (i.e. my heart / body). Somewhere tonight a girl is born for you. Somewhere here in Como." ('Girl' could mean 'new song', potentially even based on some of the elements from this improvisation...???) Early in the show when she said her hello, she mentioned that she hoped the wind would not blow her skirt up in the air. She then mentioned that she was wearing shorts underneath, and that her doctor would now be the only ones to see what is underneath, not the crowd. The show had a definite motherhood theme to it, as can be seen from the song choices. The day was interesting because Tori's meet and greet with the fans did not begin until about 7:00PM and then she had an extremely short soundcheck at 8:00PM. Tori made an interesting comment before Vincent saying it was written by the person that Killing Me Softly is about. Apparently, Killing Me Softly was written about Don McLean, which seems to be confirmed by several online sources. Before the encores, when many audience members were again standing at the stage, Tori said that 'this stage rattles in G sharp'... And she smiled and proved the effect with a little vocal experiment. (Unfortunately, this effect was indeed quite strong and clearly audible - but only in the immediate stage area. Tori has to be admired if she had this effect during the entire show and did not allow it to affect her performance at all...) At the beginning of Tear In Your Hand during the encores, Tori invited the audience to sing along ('I know you know this'...). And this worked very well during the very first part of the song. There was a problem with people running up to take photos during the show and with security trying to stop it. It is requested at the remaining shows that people refrain from taking photos during the concert. Thank you. From Raffaella: This was my first Tori show and it surely won't be the last one!!!;P I haven't realized yet that I was really there and in front of her (... herm, actually I wasn't so close to her and this is my ONLY regret, except for the shoes I was wearing that literally KILLED me;))) and that I was listening to her live (I've been a passionate Ear With Feet of hers since 1998), I would have liked to stay there and listen to her playing and singing all night, so, I guess, I will have to go to all the shows I can to recover!!!:D I particularly liked this show because of the location of course, but also because she played LOTS of my favourite songs, the concert had a deep and intimate atmosphere and the tracklist, in my opinion, was AMAZING, and quite well balanced too. The concert began at about ten o' clock, because she only could do the soundcheck at seven o' clock poor sweetheart:)), the opener was Tom McRae, I think he was really really good (and tender when he bashfully said something like "On beautiful evenings like this, it's such a pity to play songs about loneliness, death, suicide, but, it's all I got, so..." and he began to play something different, about "the beauty of life"), the audience was pleased to hear him singing although we were looking forward to seeing Tori!! And there she was, lighty dressed with an elegant, veiled pink dress that often blew up at the pretty strong breeze in Cernobbio;)), she had her hair loose and all that made the atmosphere a bit magical and even more intense. She began with Original Sinsuality, she sang it with lyrics and vocals a bit different than those in the album version, a suitable and stirring opening. The next song was Amber Waves, it's not one of my "very very very very favourites";)) but Tori was really inspired, charismatic and the refrain undeniably touching. Then she turned to us and said something like "If the wind blows up my dress, please don't take any picture, because I'm an old woman now (we were already laughing and clapping our hands!!!) and an elder woman and they don't do these things!!!" She was so friendly and relaxed, her sweetness and humility is such a rare thing to find, I think, even among the people that are closer to you. And shen she began playing Silent All These Years, I could not believe that this was really hap-hap-happening:)), because it's my favourite song ever. I did not dare to hope I could listen to it live, I heard lots of live versions of Saty but this one was AMAZINGLY INTENSE and beautifully played, the audience was charmed and she was really into it. You know, when you suddenly realize that she's going to play the song you like the most and just can't help feeling that she's dedicating it to you?? I had just this feeling, I can't help it... THANK YOU SO MUCH TORI. Mother, Beauty Queen\Horses, The Beekeeper (slower, just the vocals and the HammondB3 Organ), Icicle were also SPECIAL, and Winter was one of the best moments too (especially the refrain, it's always a stirring moment for me). The Impro before Martha's Foolish Ginger was simply ASTONISHING (!!!), it seemed a song on her own!!!! I hope that there will be bootlges or MP3's of the shows!!!:P Martha's Foolish Ginger was played in a very "serious" and solmen way, and the part "Who knows\ what I would have done..." wonderfully tender. I did not recognize Mother Revolution at first, I mistooke it for Taxi Ride (as I was longing for that:)) It was an unusual, slower performance, and the piano Rhodes and Bosendorfer very delicate. Playboy Mommy was touching and moving, she played it with the synth and its painful solemnity was as always peculiar, although the vocals were powerful and intense in all the songs, which made them different (even just in a few details) from other live performances, I was sincerely amazed at the little variations here and there. Parasol was played with the Bosendorfer during the refrain (which was one of the most beautiful moments in the show, this song has a special meaning to me:)), with drawled vocals and the Rhodes in the other parts. I like this song better as it is played on the album, it's so painful and solemn, but I was REALLY HAPPY to hear it!!! I had never heard her cover of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus, but, it's like the best!!!! It was sooooo ironic and sensual!!!!! I didn't know what had inspired the cover Vincent (Starry Starry Night) but then she explained it (she was so kind, witty and open to us, just as we were all close friends to her), and now I like this song a little more! Tear In Your Hand is also one of my VERY FAVOURITES, and before playing she said kindly "I know you know that..." A lot of people were in front of the stage now (still I was too far to see her well) taking picture and looking at her, standing in a daze and listening to this wonderful song (very good performance). And when she sang "Time... to wave goodbye now" and there was silence, someone screamed "You're beautiful!" and she had a brief laugh (sooo tender!) The audience was still charmed and astonished when she began to play Cooling, and it was a special live version too, just as Sweet the Sting, that now I like better played live:))because it was slower, sweeter and Tori played it with the Hammond B3 Organ, and her voice was so sensual and charming. The concert ended with a very good live of Hey Jupiter, and it echoed all through the garden and 'till the street, it was the Dakota version but even softer, I had to go away before she ended it (noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!:P) but I could her the end of the song as I walked away and this was a consolation for me. |
