From Matt Page and Richard G.: It was a great show tonight, and Tori performed her written set list exactly. Her voice sounded good and the sound was amazing, especially considering the venue was an arena. There were a lot of strong feminine imagery in the songs chosen for tonight's set. Tori mentioned during the show that she has received a lot of requests for covers. Richard added that he really enjoyed the covers this evening. From Rose: The concert was amazing. Tori was wearing a magnificent white dress with a pink top underneath. After blood roses (very good: performed on the organ) she talked about how she liked being in Holland because she would not be killed here for being a feminist! The rest of the concert was very good. Her voice was amazing! For 8 years I was hoping for Marianne and when I heard the first notes I was blown away and I actually cried (something I ordinarely do not do!) Hey Jupiter was another highligt! It was the lost song and her voice was as strong as in the beginning. I must say I don't care to much for the very long version of the beekeeper, but that is the only peace of critisism you will hear from me! It was the best concert I have ever been to! From Hirja: The venue was not filled with people as it was with the scarlet tour, the second ring was closed, on our tickets was printed there would be 2 guest performers and an after show but is was just McRae and no after show. About 9.00 pm Tori came on stage with a lime coulered pants and light coulered dress. After 2 songs Tori said this was just like her living room (exact same comment as on the scarlet tour) because she liked holland very much and because dhe would't get a ticket for being a feminist. She'd liked us to light a lamp for her. Her comment's on the piano bar segment was that "we really sucked, well not really but just because I'm in Holland doesn't mean I have to play them, I won't because I'm a bitch, but a yummy bitch" so she did picked 2 songs and Personal Jesus was I think the only up-tempo song of the whole night!! And with A case of you, you could see Tori likes that lovesong very much and that shows. I personaly don't like a complete song on an organ, in combination with the piano well that sounds better but I think I like her best on the piano alone. The songs get very streched out when she plays them on organ and for The Beekeeper I didn't like that one at all, its the only time when she plays that organ. And I think maybe I missed Matt and John on some of the songs. But overall it was a good show at least for the complete songs that were played on the piano 'cause that's what's she does best. So if you're going to be at a show: ENJOY. From M. N. Kannemans: Tori got on stage at about 9 pm. after blood roses she said hello and told the audience she was very happy to be in the Netherlands again, because it's the only country where she won't be carded (?) for being a feminist. Ahoy is not a nice, intimate venue but in my opinion she succeeded in turning it into a big livingroom! Tori gave it a 100% and seemed very happy; during songs as "silent all these years" and "the Beekeeper" it was absolute silent wich was the way it should be. Tori rocked during 'personal jesus" and showed some nice moves during that song! The last time tori visited the Netherlands (2003) she played her 'greatest hits' but last night she chose to play less well-known songs, that I was happy about. I liked the way she played "little A'dam", normally definately not one of my favourites.. i thought she might sing 'little rotterdam', but she didn't..;-) one small note; I love the song-intro's, the piano and organ played at the same time; absolutely beautiful!! I really wouldn't mind if the played a few extra bars than.. especially because a few guys behind us were all the time guessing out loud wich song she started.. grrr, other than that; happy fan! From Wouter: This was a great show, with the spotlight on The Beekeeper and Boys for Pele. Tori was more talkative than during her last few Dutch shows, and at the start she said how she loved being here, in our country, as it's the only place in the world where she doesn't get arrested for being a feminist. Also, during the piano bar section, she said that she received a lot of requests, and theat they didn't ALL suck, and that she would play some, but she didn't have to, 'cause she can be a bitch, a yummie bitch with lipp gloss. As for the sound, I think it was great, her voice came through very strong, and she was in top form. The setlist was quite interesting, I think, with a focus on her new album, of course, and her earlier work. The covers were done very well, and my favourite was A Case of You. My favourite moment of the show was Martha's Foolish Ginger, I love the song on record, but the live version just added something extra to the song. Tori herself looked gorgeous, and she was smiling a lot and looking quite happy. A night to remember! From Anneke van der Elst: Yesterday I've been at the Tori concert in Holland. Tori made a very strond appearance with her Original Sinsuality. Wearing a beautiful white / pink dress, white high heels and an amazing necklace (Otazu?) she made the crowd go wild playing en and singing the first notes. We had really amazing seats en we could see everything very detailed. Blood roses was very, very powerful. The sounds of the orchan is weird in the beginning, but it gives several songs really cool extra boost. After Blood Roses Tori turned to the audience en did her little wave. She said: Tonight this is our livingroom. I guess this is the only place for not being arrested for being a feminist. Make it your living room and shine your lamp on me.' She kept Icicle small and light, but because of that the song spoke for itself. During the song several people were walking to the front to sit down on the ground there. The idea of a living room wasn't very appreaciated by the guards of Ahoy, so they all had to go back. It's possible that Tori heard someting of that happening. Mother Revolution was very strong. Tori combined the piano and the organ frequently. Silent all these years seemed to be a very welcome song and the crowd cheered. Tori seemed really passionated. Martha Foollish Ginger made me love this song for the first time. There'smuch more in it than you think. Bells for her onthe keyboards was very intimate, just beautiful. Tori announcedher Piano Bar and turned to the audience. She said: I received al lot of requests from you. I must say, they're nog ALL horrible. Is doesnt mean that I HAVE to play them, becauseI'm in Holland. Because I'm a bitch. But ....... a'jummie' bitch. Personal Jesus was very strong en quitelong. Beautyfully done. A case of you was more intense than I've ever heard. Then Tori went slightly into Barons of Suburbia. Superb melody and a very intense combination of the organ en Bsey. Almost erotic how she played the two instruments at the same time. Tear in your hand and Northern Lad were beautiful and I saw some tears around me. Marianne was stronger than ever and The Beekeeper was just ...... unbelievable. Little Amsterdam was the first song Tori improvised. She sang a very intense 'You just watched him die' several times and a very bluesy improv on the word 'Superdooper' (or Supertrooper?). At the lyric 'playing that organ' Tori grabbed the microphone with her right hand and she kinda handjobbed it. The power of orange knickers was how it's supposed to be. Maybe she sang it a little weaker than expected, but she was really into it. Hey Jupiter was a perfect ending of the show. Intense and emotional. From Robin Abma: Tori entered the court at 09.04 pm and left stage at 11 pm. She sounded very powerful and sometimes a little emotional. Especially during her 2nd encore, Tori play The power of orange knickers with a lot of passion. Because I was standing at the front row, I could see her emotional expressions on her face during this song. Tori mentioned lovingbeing in the Netherlands by expressing that this was the only place in the world were wouldn'tbe arrested for being a feminist. Tonight, Tori played four songs from Boys for Pele, which really pleased me. Especially Marianne was the one that touched me. Lovely. Tori played Icicle and Northern lad as played on the CD: pure. There was just one annoying part of the evening. Several people were walking during the performance. They probably arrived too late or had to go to the toilet, I don't know. Anyway, it caused a lot of unrest. At a certain point the security people removed people who were sitting in the aisles. After they were sent away, peace was restored. But if I only consider Tori's part, I would like to say: thank you for visiting the Netherlands. From Mark: It was quite a special evening. After an incredible serene and emotional meet and greet the concert itself turned out just that. The evening started very powerful with Blood Roses but after that we got all the really emotional songs like Icicle, Silent all these Years and Bells for her. She played them all really downbeat and intense. The covers were stunning. She did Personal Jesus for the second time and I think it was even more powerful than the first time she did it. A Case of You is always nice, and this version is no exception. She told us during the concert that she was glad to be back and that the Netherlands seemed the only place where you're not arrested for being a feminist. Also during the piano bar she said that the request sucked a little and that she would play covers she liked cause she was a bitch like that. A yummy bitch with lipgloss she added and the crowd laughed and cheered. I had two problems with the concert. For one that it seemed to lack a tensionspan. The songs were almost all downbeat and streched out so they all sounded alike and that was too bad. My boyfriend, who is new to Tori, could really appreciate her voice and her performance but he had a hard time to keep his focus on the concert, and not because he wasn't interested. These were all songs that you have to grow in to and build a connection with. Also the crowd seemed a little mellow. I know the first four rows were reserved for winners of a radiocontest and when they won it was already quite clear that they weren't really big fans. They all reacted on their victory with: "Tori? oh well, yeah I like her, she's not too bad". And it was those people that ran back an front the whole time which was really annoying. There were also alot of VERY bright flashes of camera's, some even used the anti-red-eye-flash, which produces multiple short flashes which were absolutly unnecessary because the pictures probably wouldn't even show Tori's eyes... Other than that I want to add that tori is always amazing and that her voice and pianoplaying was magnificent as always. From Alet: June 11th, the day I was waiting for! Me and my friend won two contests, one with a radiostation to see the soundcheck and meet Tori at diner, which unfortunately and for some hidden reason didn't happen... We were quite disappointed but I just hope it wasn't Tori who wasn't interested in her fans. The second contest was one from Tori Amos Streetteam. We won front row seets. The concert was great and front row was even better. I could see her every move, it was almost like I was the only one there... The beautifull songs like Hey Jupiter, A case of you and Northern Lad were so impressive they made me cry during the concert, which I wouldn't normally do.. I loved it, and I really was amazed about how Tori used her voice and sung an played the piano and got the whole arena to listen. She wasn't very talkative, which was kind of a shame. I really disliked all the cameras, I decided not to take pictures cause I thought Tori might be bothered, but a lot of others did take pictures, which I thought was very disturbing! But afterall it was a great concert, the sound was great and being front row was a once in a lifetime experience!! |
