Music Review: Tori Amos
The Beekeeper

Using her famous storytelling style, Tori Amos' ninth album, The Beekeeper, brings to life a kind of Alice-like character, developing her through 19 tracks.

Unlike her last album, Scarlet's Walk, Amos falls back on her Christian roots with The Beekeeper. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, Amos is no stranger to the Christian-inspired music. Yet, she gives it a different twist, focusing on the women she found were almost forgotten in the gospels.

On the album, ancient mythological figures like Sekhmet or Kuan-Yin or Freya or Queen Maeve are represented by "six gardens." Amos' heroine encounters them as she moves from garden to garden, searching for the truth behind many of society's shortcomings. With her trusty piano, Amos examines topics like the balance between men and women, and even questions death and its inevitability.
