In the Cornwall home of Tori, Husband and Tash
By Nina Metz

For more than a decade, singer-songwriter Tori Amos has been known for her restless lyricism on such singles as "Cornflake Girl" and "God." She's back with a new album, "The Beekeeper," and a free-associative memoir, "Tori Amos: Piece by Piece" (Broadway, 368 pages, $23.95), which she will sign on March 16 at the Borders bookstore at 830 N. Michigan Ave. Amos returns to Chicago for a performance in April, a tour that will take her away from the cozy minimalist home she and husband Mark Hawley have shared in Cornwall, England, for the past six years. "It's an old fisherman's house in the old Cornish countryside," Amos explained recently by e-mail. The property also includes a barn that has been converted into a studio.

While Amos used to be in charge of the decorating decisions, that has increasingly become the domain of the couple's 4-year-old daughter, Natashya: "Tash has slowly started to take over in that department." But it looks like Amos has maintained her own style and quirky sensibility, as was evidenced in her e-mail replies highlighting all things "TORI."

1. One thing on your nightstand: Always a bottle of Evian, a book and some lipgloss.

2. One thing on a wall in your living room: A very complex DVD/surround-sound/flat-screen plasma TV contraption that I have no idea how to work but fulfills Husband's home-entertainment binge tendencies.

3. One thing you have in your house from your childhood: I definately have keyboards from someone's childhood (that are probably older than I am) but certainly not mine.

4. Three condiments we would find in your refridgerator: Every condiment known to man is in our refridgerators.

5. Three things we would find in your medicine cabinet: Cetaphil face wash, floss and a few anti-inflammaTORIES for Husband.

6. Do your dirty dishes go in your sink or a dishwasher? I prefer to hand-wash dishes, but I am out-voted by everyone else.

7. Maker of your everyday dinnerware: Jasper Conran's white (square for lunch, round for dinner).

8. Maker of your fine china: Don't have any.

9. What reading material will we find in your bathroom? The warning sign on the fire extinguisher.

10. Most embarrassing thing in your home that you hide when guests come over? Certain books of visual art when Tash's play date is coming over for tea.'
