Amos' `Beekeeper' produces honey

On "The Beekeeper," Tori Amos weaves a metaphor about needing bees to keep life's garden balanced. Yep, it's another dense and adventurous song cycle for the deep-thinking, deep-feeling Amos, who continues exploring the intersection between the sacred and the profane.

Amos' latest high-blown concept album will no doubt annoy disbelievers, but they might want to give it a try. "The Beekeeper" is less heavy and more accessible than her previous efforts, without any sacrifice of her risky brilliance.

Armed with her trademark Bosendorfer piano on one side and a Hammond B3 organ on the other, she's joined on four tracks by the London Community Gospel Choir, duets with Damien Rice in "The Power of Orange Knickers," and churns out several gorgeous melodies, including the first single, "Sleeps With Butterflies."
