You might think it would be impossible for Tori Amos to make a dull record but The Beekeeper is precisely that. It's polite piano ballads show off Amos's beautifully tensile voice, but little of her searing song writing talent. Amos doesn't always have to write about rape to make a good song but she is better when exorcising demons than when celebrating contentment, which is what dominates here. The dreadful The Power of Orange Knickers makes a mockery of the many occasions when Amos has written powerfully about similar subjects
