Since 1994, Tori Amos has garnished 8 grammy nominations. She has been penned "Best Alternative Music", "Best Rock Female Vocal", and her songs like "Raspberry Swirl", "Bliss", and albums like Under The Pink, Boys For Pele, To Venus and Back, and Strange Little Girls have been critically acclaimed. She has been heralded by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest live acts. Her live performance have been raved about the world over. A couple of months ago this CD and DVD made it to my desk. I kept moving it from place to place, not ven thinking about writing about it. Then it daened on me (duh!) that I was supposed to be writing about this. When I finally put the CD on, I was thrilled. Tori Amos has just released Welcome To Sunny Florida. It also includes a DVD that captures the final performance of the 2003 Scarlet's Walk tour that ran for a year, doing more than 159 shows throughout Europe and North America.
This CD and DVD is something every Tori Amos fan should have. It features Tori with drummer Matt Chamberlain and bassist Jon Evans. Together they produce some incredible music. Just hearing Tori play the piano gives me chills. She has such a special touch. About her Trio, Tori says, "This triangle shape brought the balance of male and female. With the three of us, we were able to find enough space, because sometimes it is about the breath, the conversations between the instruments".
Welcome To Sunny Florida showcases something that is perhaps even more spectacular than her studio achievements. This 18-song show was recorded in West Palm Beach, Florida, and captures the unique and intimate way Tori interacts with her audience. You'll get to see Tori rolling with the music. Her body sways to the notes. Her eyes closed, Tori goes all over the place in this recently released CD and DVD.
The CD includes 6 previously unreleased songs entitled Scarlet's Hidden Treasures. It futhers Scarlet's beautiful path across this country with a narrative indicative of the briiliant, poetic storytelling that Tori is famous for.
