This is such a wonderful event, and The Dent is proud to support it! The 3rd annual Tori Amos Tribute Show and RAINN Benefit will be held at the Temple Ball Galleries in Carrboro, NC on Saturday, April 17, 2004. (Carrboro is in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area.) Doors open at 7:00PM and the show begins at 8:30PM. Tickets will be a $10 at the door. Various artists will honor the music of Tori at this show and raise money for RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). This year, the tribute show is sponsored by Bösendorfer Pianos (Thanks to Ruggero Piano for their help in obtaining that sponsorship!) The event will also host a gallery show of artwork related to Tori which will also be sold to help RAINN. You can find out all the details of this great event, including a list of performers and the Tori songs they will sing, at toritribute.com. I also have a press release about The 2004 Tori Amos Tribute Show.

More Details

Regional and national artists honor songwriter Tori Amos through tribute-concert benefiting National Sexual Assault Hotline

Regional and national touring musicians will perform a Tori Amos tribute concert to benefit The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, RAINN; a non-profit 24-hour hotline co-founded by Amos. Tori Tribute 2004 will take place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 17 at the Temple Ball Gallery in Carrboro, NC. Tickets are $10 and will only be available at the door.

The Temple Ball Gallery will also feature an exhibition of art inspired by Amos' music in conjunction with the musical concert. Tori Tribute 2004 coordinators will sell selected works of Tori Amos related artwork and merchandise to benefit RAINN at the event, and auction what is not sold after the event on Ebay.

This year, performers from Tori Tribute 2003 Denise Barbarita, Leslie Berry, Shannon Campbell, Christine Havrilla, Alysson Light, Rebecca Lynne, Nikki Talley, Rebecca Zannini, and event director, Lisa Ray will be joined by national touring artists including Angela Ai, Kyler England, Randy Fulk, Keyth Lawrence, Kristi Martel, and Luke Myers. Each performer will perform up to 3 of Tori Amos's songs.

Renown and published artist Herb Leonhard is contributing the logo for Tori Tribute 2004, as well as an original oil painting. Canadian artist Paulina Stuckey is donating an original pen and watercolor illustration, as well as numerous prints. Laurie Paris has contributed a hand-colored artist's proof of her painting. Porcelain doll-maker Pat Kochie will be donating again this year. David Mack, the writer and illustrator of Kabuki, will be donating the original of his piece which will appear in the 2005 RAINN calendar. Jewelry designer Eryn Merwart will be donating an original necklace. In addition there will be many prints available by artists such as Bob Massey, Ken Meyer Jr., and Paul Elia; and original artwork available by Ken Vent and Nanci Wilson.

Tori Tribute founder and director, Lisa Ray, was inspired to organize this event from her admiration for Amos' innovative music and leadership in co-founding RAINN. "This is a chance for musicians who love to play the music of Tori Amos to come together and share their interpretations of her songs," said Ray "we can honor a wonderful composer and raise money for a vital community resource, like RAINN." Ray, who trained as a classical pianist at UNC-Chapel Hill, teaches piano, composes, and performs original music at Triangle venues.

Unlike most events of a charitable nature in the Durham/Chapel Hill area which are linked to the universities, The Tori Amos Tribute Show is organized purely on a volunteer basis by the coordinators and sponsors involved. All proceeds from this event will be donated to RAINN.

RAINN, the first and largest national anti-sexual assault organization, operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE. The official Tori Tribute Web Site can be accessed at www.toritribute.com

In addition to the numerous musical and artistic sponsors, Tori Tribute 2004 sponsors include Temple Ball Gallery of Carrboro, NC; Bosendorfer of Vienna, Ruggero Piano of Raleigh, NC, The Merch Screen Printing of Chapel Hill, NC; The Blotter, Little Blue World Fanzine, Karl Wetter Sound of Chapel Hill, NC, and many more.
