This will be the only Summer Of Sin show that I get to see, so I was really looking forward to it. I liked the picture of the apple tree and the snake with the glasses that was in the background, representing the Garden of Eden. When Tori first said hello, she said "This time we have power. The last time I was in the blackout with you." Tori then told everybody that Tash was having a birthday party in Cleveland and that everyone going to that show was invited to dress as a Star Wars character! Amber Waves sounded very haunting on the organ tonight. Barons Of Suburbia had an impressive intro. My favorite performance of the night was God. This new version is amazing and very atmospheric, with Tori adding lyrics from Running Up That Hill and clearly saying the Bible verse that she softly recites in the song, followed by the lyrics, "Is that what you said in that good book?" Before Tori's Piano Bar segment, She said "Okey Dokey" and then sang the 'Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't" lyric. She then allowed people to scream their piano bar requests for a while, and then said, "Okay, now that your primal scream time is over..." I really enjoyed the first piano bar song, which I did not recognize at first, but thought Tori did an amazing time performing it. Tori was suppose to open the second encore with Liquid Diamonds, but sang Twinkle instead. Tori also had Martha's Foolish Ginger on the written set list between Crucify and Siren but did not play it. I wish I could say more about the show, but I am exhausted! It was a very enjoyable show and Tori seemed to be in a good mood. There were times when Tori played the piano very expressively and energetically, and other times when the show seemed more mellow and low-key. I did see Neil Gaiman at this show, which was nice. Both opening acts were enjoyable and unique. Tori does not normally have women open for her, and it was quite refreshing. I got to meet several people at the show for the first time and others again, and I enjoyed that very much. Thanks for coming up and saying hello! From Heather Ribis: Hello Mike! I read your review of the show, it sounds great so I don't have much to add! The meet and greet prior to the show was the first that I've been able to go to, it was AMAZING. I met her once 7 years ago, my friend had never met her before, so it was quite an experience for both of us. Everyone was so nice! (Were you there? She was calling to a "Mike", was that you??) [Note from Mikewhy: Yes, Tori was calling to me at the meet and greet. :)] Also, I did get a chance to talk to Neil briefly while the Ditty Bops were on stage. He was just so sweet, let us take a picture and signed a couple things for us. What a nice guy! My friend and I both submitted an email to him via his website today thanking him for taking the time to talk to us. Apparently it was his younger daughter's birthday and he was just in for the day with her to see Tori. I was so stunned that there he was in Michigan! It was an amazing night! And I agree with you about this version of God - I was very impressed! The entire show was just phenominal. I actually didn't even know she was touring without the band until I saw it for myself last night. I'll be at the show in Cleveland (my home town) tomorrow. Should be fun, my friend is dressing up! =) From kym (broken_pryncess): just wanted to say how nice it was to see you and amanda at the meet & greet on sunday. and what an amazing m&g it was! my husband and i got there around 130 or so and almost immediately smitty and joel came out and started to set up the barricades. i asked joel if he was back for good and he smiled and said "no, i just live in the area". i actually got a laugh out of smitty and he asked me if i wanted to get rid of him! i just laughed and said that they could both stay! after the barricades were up, everyone just stood back and finally someone asked joel and smitty what we were supposed to do - joel laughed and said "come on guys - show 'em how it's done". so, i took off running and managed to score a spot right up front in the corner of the barricades, figuring that regardless of where she started that she would get to me. smitty told us that she'd be out in about 30-40 minutes, but it wasn't until about an hour or so that she came out riding in a little green golf cart. she started to my right and talked to about 6 or 7 people before getting to me. this was the 2nd time that i've gotten to meet her, though the first time i was barely able to tell her my name. this time i actually managed to have a conversation with her - i told her the story about how i had met my husband because of her and how much that she meant to us. she said that she couldn't take all of the credit for our relationship, and i agreed but told her that if not for her we most likely would've never even have met. she mentioned to me that neil was supposed to be at the show that night and signed my copy of her book. i told her happy birthday even though it was a little late, and she let out a really big sigh and said "yeah, thanks." then i moved out of the way so that the girl behind me could meet her. apparently, she had just found out that she was pregnant and she told tori that she would be honored if she would name her child. tori told her that that was a very personal decision - something that she and her child would have to live with for the rest of their lives and that she needed to listen to her own voices to come up with a name. then, she paused and said, "whatever you do, do not name it myra...never do that to a child" and laughed. she then worked her way over to my husband (it was his first time getting to meet her - he got his picture taken with her and got a picture signed). then tori asked someone there if they would mind taking a picture of her with the both of us, probably because of the story of how she brought us together. the concert itself was absolutely amazing - but then you know already since you were there. the version of god/ruth was incredible, and i will never be able to listen to the line "sophia would insist you must eat of this" without envisioning the crotch grab that she did during it. somehow, she always manages to surprise me after all of this time. lol From Courtney Burene: This was by far the best Tori show i have been to. Tori seemed to put A LOT into it all. I was so very lucky to be at the meet and greet, and like Kym, when people weren't moving into the barricades, we decided to go for it too. In the middle of talking to one of the first people that she talked to, she recognized you Mike! It was cute, she told Smitty to make sure she got to say goodbye to you before you left. I have a picture of her waving to you if you'd like. This too was my second time meeting Tori, and the first time i was also speechless, i was actually crying. This time i was able to maintain my composure to have a conversation. I am the girl who asked Tori about the baby names. It was cute, she said she and Mark had arguments about Tash's name because they would think of a name and then remember that one of them knew aperson in the 2nd grade with that name that they couldn't stand. She called me Momma andmy boyfriend Dad and congratulated us.Tori is so sweet and i wasso happy to actually speak with her. I had mentioned the piano bar and how i requested Karma Police, and then howshe mentioned it on the AIM interview, and i asked her if there was a chance she could possibly play it for us. She said shedidn't know what was going on tonight, but she'd see. And well, asyouall know, SHE PLAYED IT. I was the one with the blood curdling scream after she sang the first word, Karma! Barons of Surburbia had a lot of power in it, i was impressed. I saw her in April, and that show was GREAT but this one was IMPRESSIVE! When she started Barons, i seriously thought it was Icicle. It was good to hear China also. She brought out a lot of older songs, and I know that made a lot of people happy! Karma Police was incredible. when i saw she mentioned it, i wondered what it may sound like if she covered it, and it totally blew my expections away. When she played God, it sounded so good, you wouldn't think it was just Tori and her keyboard. Tori Is A Genius. |
