It seemed not a permanent venue and rather a structure in Genova harbor used for the summer festival that Tori's show was part of. The relatively high stage did not have a backdrop - i.e. that behind Tori the blue Genova evening sky and some of the harbor buildings were visible. The venue also seemed to be close to an airport - a few planes were noticeable during the concert. The audience sat on temporary chairs. (The venue would in principle have offered the opportunity to set up many additional chairs.) The distance between first row and Tori's position on the stage was substantial - a very big difference compared to the previous night in Montreux, where the first row was practically on the stage... Tom McRae (and his cellist Ollie Krauss) did not play in Genova. Tori started roughly on time (shortly after 9:30pm) and finished the concert approximately at 11:25pm). Let's briefly discuss some aspects of the Genova setlist: Original Sinsuality Unusual for Tori shows, official photographers were allowed at the stage for only this one song. Often, Tori allows photographers during her soundcheck, so that there is no need for them to come to the actual show. Today, the photographers had one (relatively short) song to get their pictures. Little Amsterdam The song did seem to have a short additional (improvised) part today, which made the song seem longer than it usually does. Icicle Before the start Tori said that "this girl has come to cool you down on this very warm day"... Another strong performance. Take To The Sky The clapping never stopped. During the parts where Tori especially encourages the clapping, it was louder, but it continued in a softer way during all other parts during the song. Tori obviously enjoyed herself a lot during this performance. At the end, Tori gave a big smile to the audience and applauded briefly in the audience's direction, basically signalling "well done, Genova". Cloud On My Tongue Jamaica Inn Tear In Your Hand Played on the piano, where usually this spot is reserved for a Rhodes song. This resulted in a slightly different flow of the show. The part where Tori briefly stops in the song and restarts it with a little shout received an extra round of applause from the Genova audience. Killing Me Softly Tori lived the emotions of the song during her performance. Boys In The Trees Also very emotional. Both covers belonged to the show highlights. Parasol Siren Today's version seemed to have been shorter than the Zurich performance of the song, especially during the ending part, which today had less repetitions and was therefore less intense. Jackie's Strength Rattlesnakes The only Rhodes song of the night. The Beekeeper China Never Seen Blue Hey Jupiter The second encore contained only this one song, which, however, always works well in order to close a show. Tori's written set list had her doing Amber Waves and then Never Seen Blue for the first encore and The Power Of Orange Knickers and Hey Jupiter for the second encore, but as you can see above, she shorted that. The crowd tonight was very respectful and Tori seemed happy to see everyone. |
