The December 27, 2001 Special Double Issue of Rolling Stone (#885/886) includes an article by David Fricke about John Lennon and the song Imagine becoming the Anthem of 2001 after the events of September 11th and 30 years after the song's initial release. It includes a nice quote from Tori about the song. Thanks to Raven Oak and Kellychan for being the first Toriphiles to tell me about this. The Tori part of the article is below: "That same day, Tori Amos performed 'Imagine' at a taping for CBS' The Saturday Early Show. 'It's a song about sanity," she explains. 'I usually stand on the nonviolent side of things every time. But with this turn of events in all of our lives, I can feel myself reaching my breaking point. 'Imagine' is the one thing that can bring me to a place where I can get logical, think, breathe. Yes, the song is an anthem. But it's also oxygen.'" Also, in early December 2001, Rolling Stone emailed people who are in their daily music news list the following quote from Rufus Wainwright, who opened for Tori during the North American leg of her Strange Little Tour. (Thanks Valerie Nannery and Meighan Cavanaugh.) "She's very mystical in her demeanor. More like elfish, more like wood creature or a gnomish sex mom." |
