RAINN Pamplet With Message From Tori

Joanne Wittenberg sends me the following information about a RAINN Pamplet that was being given out at the RAINN benefit concert:

It had the same picture of Tori from the SPIN ad on the front along with the "unlock the silence" logo inside. It also contained this special message from Tori:

Dear Friends,

Since the song "Me and a Gun" came out in 1991, you've been sending me letters, poems, and drawings telling me of your experiences, your tears, the hole in your heart. You've talked with me about healing and transmuting the pain into wisdom -- and then, just when you think "Wow here I am in the clear blue sky", all of a sudden, Bang.

Crashing.

Something comes up like bubbles to the surface, bringing up another part of ourselves that has been silent -- that we were in the dark about.

Lurking.

Nightmares aren't my favorite thing. I want to feel safe period. My soul wants to feel safe not terrorized.

A teacher of mine recently said to me, "Many people agree collectively to not think and feel things that deep down they know are true. Nightmares", she said, "are alarm bells saying we don't agree to Pretending We Feel Safe when we don't." So my nightmares are becoming little clues to what my mind can't hide from my heart. I hopr RAINN begins to help you with your nightmares.

I received a letter from a 13 year old girl in Paris whose stepfather has been molesting her for years. She wrote: "If I had known a phone number which would have been able to help, I certainly would have dialed it. So, we can go on being blind and dumb: You don't have to put the message with the help phone number out now. Maybe you'll never do it, because of different reasons. You won't be to blame for it. But, I want you to never forget that every day someone loses their dignity."
