Tori did a small mini-concert for radio station Mix 96.9 (KMXP) in Tempe/Scottsdale, AZ on Monday, December 16, 2002 at Anderson's Fifth Estate. It was also an event that supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Sixpence None The Richer was also part of the event. This event was broadcast live on the radio.

You can find photos from the event at mix969.com.

Tori performed the following alone at the piano:

Crazy
a sorta fairytale
Strange

Commentary

Here is an article about the event from the December 18, 2002 edition of the Arizona Republic. Thanks to Sandy Rizzo.

Amos makes Wish come true

About 100 Valley music fans got their Christmas wish early this year at an intimate miniconcert by Tori Amos and Sixpence None the Richer in Scottsdale.

Listeners of "The Mix" (KMXP-FM, 96.9) had bid online for tickets to Amos' performance Monday at Anderson's Fifth Estate. The auction also included celebrity momentos and raised $6,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes of seriously ill children.

After doing three songs from her new Scarlet's Walk album for a live broadcast on the Mix, which organized the event, Amos spent time with Make-A-Wish children before leaving for her concert in Tempe.

From Christine Abraham:

Tori performed 3 songs at the Happy Holiday's Party organised by the radio station The New Mix 96.6 at Anderson's Fifth Estate in Old Town Scottsdale. All profits went to the Make A Wish Foundation.

I was very lucky to attend that tiny event. I'd estimate there were about 40 - 50 people in the club. Tori wasn't the only artist, Six Pence None The Richer were also playing a little acoustic set, but Tori came first. She entered the stage after the radio presenter had introduced her and sat down in front of the litte electronic piano. After a little chat about Scarlet's Walk, Tori started playing Crazy. She then went into A Sorta Fairytale and closed the short set with Strange. Never was the line "but now I must be leaving" more appropriate. The radio presenter asked her a couple of questions between the songs. He wanted to know what Tori's parents think of her music and her lyrics, which prompted Tori to tell the Father Lucifer/ esctasy story that many of us probably already know from her appearance on VH1 Storytellers in 98. She was also asked for how long she had been touring at that point and she replied "Forever!". She then mentioned that this was probably going to be her last big tour for a while because Tash was going to pre-school soon and she would have to adapt her touring schedule to Tash's schedule. She also said that On Scarlet's Walk was going to last until August 2003.

Her performance was broadcast live, by the way. You can see some pictures that were taken with some "VIP" ticketholders backstage on mix969.com.

From Landa Ainsworth (landathelost):

I had bid on a ticket for charity, so when I got there, they gave me two! I gave one away to a toriphile with no ticket. It was supposed to start at two. At about 2:45 the let everyone in and we went to a large room (but not very big at all) where there were tables, barstools, etc set up. I thought the crowd was very orderly and accomodating to one another. I saw joel in the corner and this nice guy sitting in front of me said that they had let in the first ten or so people in line to meet her of which he was one. He was very excited:)! So at 3:00 tori came out and walked along the side of the room to the stage. A keyboard was set up there and she chatted with the radio dj for a moment. She played crazy solo. she sounded great she was so cute! she kind of smiled before she began a gave the crowd a bashful look (bashful tori? no way!) So then the dj talked to her again when she finished the song. he asked, "how long have you been on tour?" and she said "it seems like, forever" then he said something that made her talk of the coming return leg of the tour to the states and she said that they might come to Tuscon then and !!!!!she said she thought they would be touring until august because that was when tash went to pre-school so they had to schedule around her!" That really excites me! Maybe that means the tour will hit some more obscure places like OKLAHOMA! YAY! HOPE HOPE! Anyway, she then played a sorta fairytale, they talked some more, then she played strange and that was all! The concert was later that night and she arrived at Gammage auditorium so fast that most everyone who had seen her in scottsdale missed the meet and greet but it was worth it!

From Johnny:

I was at the MIX 969 party in tempe and tori sang crazy, a sorta, and strange. She then at one point said she would be touring not only until may but that the tour would end in AUGUST!!!

she also said that she wants to tour longer this time because tash is going to be starting pre-school soon.

From Summer & Amy:

Hi Mike! We just came from the Holiday Party and it was great. A few select people were lucky enough to get in early to meet with Tori and chat. Unfortunately not us. Maybe next time! They announced Tori and she came out wearing a cute little black and gray skirt with cute shoes and a black shirt. She had a cute sparkly barrette in her hair. She looked beautiful as always. She played a total of three songs. Crazy, A Sorta Fairytale, and Strange. It was just Tori and her little keyboard. All of the songs were amazing and since it was at a smaller bar the sound was great!

From Jason from Portland:

I was at the Tempe performance for Mix 96.9. There was approximately 75 people there and it was great! Tori  sang Crazy, A Sorta Fairytale and Strange. She spoke about being on the road in the winter and told a very funny stoary about her Dad asking "why did you call me Lucifer?" Her reply was-"Dad I was doing ecstasy in Hawaii, so it wasn't really about you!" It was so funny. She then said she would be coming back to America and would be touring until AUGUST!!!!!!!! She said she should we be coming to Tucson! She also said that this was "in a way, a farewell tour", but not like others, "it won't be my last, but my little girl will be going to preschool and my whole schedule will change". This is some good info. Tori was superb and later that night Tori was so sharp at the Gammage auditorium!!
