Many of the Happy Birthday, Tori parties are over now, although there are still a few scheduled for September. Look below for updates on how the parties did overall, and a thank you from Scott Berkowitz, President of RAINN. Scott Berkowitz's Update and Thank You

August 25, 2001

Hi. We'll post a full report next week. But now that a little more than half the parties have taken place, we wanted to give you a quick update.

Overall, we are very pleased. First, as far as fundraising, the results look pretty good so far. While some parties raised less than hoped, others raised more than their goal (and lots of others hit their goals). It will be a couple weeks until we know the totals, but the reports we have received so far from hosts are very encouraging. We'll let you know more when we get in more reports (and you can also check out the Tori Registry, where Raven has been posting totals as she gets them).

Second... wow. We've gotten some amazing feedback of great parties. I can personally report that the DC party was a smash. About 250 people, lots of fun, a great raffle, awesome volunteers. Everything really came together, and the result was a great event--not just for RAINN, but for all our guests. We've heard similar reports from Boston and lots of other places.

From day one, we thought Tori's birthday was a good excuse for a party, a good way to bring Tori fans together, and a good way to raise money for the hotline. From early reports, all those things seem to have happened. And a bonus: we gained hundreds of new volunteers all around the country, people who have demonstrated great dedication and generosity in helping RAINN. Long after we've spent the funds raised this week, that's an asset that will help the hotline for a long time to come.

One other thing I want to mention: Last week we mailed a (free) Happy Birthday, Tori tee shirt to each host, along with an order form so your guests can order their own shirts. Here's another copy of the order form.

Please get orders in within the next couple weeks. The shirts are a limited edition, and we plan to stop selling them at the end of September 2001.

Tori's Thank You

My dear friend:

I am absolutely blown away by the response to RAINN's call for an August 22 fundraising celebration. I never expected so many -- across the states and in 12 countries -- to give so much of themselves. I can't think of anything that would make this day more special or memorable.

Your unselfish labors to organize and host this event for RAINN make me humble and thankful that you are gathering in my name for this good cause.

I want you to know how much I appreciate you. I send you my thanks and my love now and forever, and I look forward to seeing you soon.
