In late January 2001, NME.com posted an article on their web site about Garbage and Shirley Manson. I mention it because Shirley mentions Tori Amos, and the article focuses on the fact that Tori's drummer, Matt Chamberlain, is helping Garbage finish their new album scheduled for release sometime in 2001. (He is playing on one track on the album.) You can read this article at the NME.com, or below. It seems Shirley is quite fond of Tori! Thanks to Liz Garlinge and Richard Handal for telling me about this. I have it from a very reliable source that as of the end of January 2001, Matt has completed recording with Garbage.

This article was also posted to the Jam! Showbiz web site on January 30, 2001.

DRUMMER JOINS THE MANSON FAMILY

GARBAGE have returned from their Christmas break to put the finishing touches to their forthcoming third album, and have recruited drummer MATT CHAMBERLAIN to "work his voodoo" on some of their new songs.

Chamberlain has previously worked with Macy Gray, Fiona Apple and Tori Amos, and has been brought in to work on new song 'Over A Cup Of Coffee'.

Speaking about Chamberlain on the official Garbage website www.garbage.com, singer Shirley Manson said: " We've tried so many different approaches on this song and can't quite conjure up the right feel we're looking for. We're hoping Matt can work his voodoo on us just like he worked magic for some of our favourite comtempories. Tori Amos and Fiona Apple for example. (I have severe crushes on both of those girls.) Butch (Vig) seems to be loving the idea of playing with another drummer, and is looking forward to stealing some tricks.

"(Matt) is frighteningly good. I actually feel almost sick with excitement in my tummy when I think about it. Musicians like Matt have been touched by the hand of god and they don't even know it."

Elsewhere, the band have written a new song, currently titled 'Androgyny', which has allowed the band to start the year on a "positive and creative note". Manson also revealed she has been dreaming about Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher. She said: "I had this hilarious dream last night about me performing a show with Oasis and Noel Gallagher was making goo goo eyes at me and I was totally into it. And all the time he was talking to me, I was eating a little lemon-cream tartlet and the feeling of all that fluffy sweet yet sour cream oozing down my throat was really erotic and extremely tasty!"

Garbage plan to release their as-yet-untitled new record during 2001.
