Tori's Strange Little Girls album was reviewed on September 18, 2001 at Chartattack.com, a web site in Canada. Thanks to Jackie for telling me.
The cool thing about Tori Amos' collection of cover songs is that all are played with her own inflections and interpretations of how she thinks they should, making for non-boring takes on the originals. The bad thing is that, well, you're not always going to agree with or even understand her versions. Case in point, Tom Waits' "Time" -- a boring song to begin with, it's made worse when it's slowed down even further and made sappier than Aunt Jemima syrup. However she certainly makes things interesting with her takes on Eminem's "'97 Bonnie & Clyde" and Slayer's "Raining Blood" -- both versions far different from the originals, but powerful in their own right, and so experimental that they make you wonder about their beauty in comparison to their vicious origins.
