A review of Scarlet's Walk appeared in the November 6, 2002 edition of the Brisbane News in Australia. Thanks to Lucy for sending it to the Dent. Tori Amos Like Kate Bush before her and, more recently, George's Katie Noonan, Tori Amos's voice is strong enough to not have to rely heavily on a structured, verse-chorus-verse format. This allows her to drift off on lengthy and compelling sagas about America's seedy underbelly - its porn stars (Amber Waves), its gamblers (Don't Make Me Come To Vegas) and its murders (Mrs. Jesus). But it can be her downfall too, allowing her to record impenetrable babble, as she does in A Sorta Fairytale: "We're just imposters in this country, you know, so we go along and we said we'd fake it, feel better with Oliver Stone, till I almost smacked him".
