Amos is Unrehearsed for First MTV/SonicNet Event
Exclusive Live Internet Performance Set for Aug. 16

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Aug. 11, 1999--Atlantic recording artist Tori Amos is set for a special internet sneak preview live performance on Monday, August 16th. "Tori Amos: Live & Unrehearsed," the first joint presentation from MTV.com and SonicNet, will find Tori opening the door to a rehearsal by the four-time Grammy-nominated artist and her band as they prepare for their upcoming cross-country concert tour.

The unique program, set to begin at 8PM (EST) on mtv.com (http://tori.mtv.com), will be performed from an undisclosed location before an intimate audience of 15 radio contest winners and their guests - not to mention a global online audience. In addition, fans may now click into mtv.com to vote for their favorite Amos song of all time, and the results will be passed on to Tori prior to her performance.

MTV Online Executive Producer Michael Alex commented: "For the first co-production between MTV Online and SonicNet, we wanted to work with a dynamic performer who could bring artistic stature and the sheer musical ability to pull off a live interactive performance. Tori was our immediate choice."

"Live & Unrehearsed" comes of the eve of Tori's much-anticipated North American tour with Alanis Morissette. Dubbed the "5 1/2 Weeks Tour," the nationwide trek kicks off on August 18th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and concludes September 26th in Los Angeles, California (with Tori continuing on for a number of solo dates). On August 17th (8PM EST), Tori and Alanis will sit down together for a live online chat (http://alanisandtori.mtv.com), sponsored by MTV.com and SonicNet.

On August 12th, Tori will venture to the New York City studios of MTV's Total Request Live (3PM EST) to spread the word to fans about her busy live and online itinerary, as well as to share details about the forthcoming release of her eagerly awaited new Atlantic album, "to venus and back." From there, Tori heads to the Ed Sullivan Theater for CBS-TV's Late Show With David Letterman, on which she will perform her just-released new single, "Bliss."

"to venus and back," which is set for release on September 21st, is a unique double-CD collection featuring an all-new full-length studio album, plus a second disc recorded live in concert during Tori's acclaimed 1998 world tour.

The studio disc of "to venus and back" will feature a dozen new Amos-penned and produced songs recorded with the members of her touring band - longtime collaborator Steve Caton on guitar, Matt Chamberlain on drums, and Jon Evans on bass -- plus programmer Andy Gray, with Tori on vocals and keyboards. The "to venus and back" live disc was recorded during Tori's "Plugged '98" marathon world trek, which marked her first-ever tour with a full band.

"to venus and back" was first conceived as a collection of Amos rarities. "I had originally thought we were tracking stuff for the B-sides album," Tori told Billboard in the magazine's July 17th cover story, "and all of these songs kept coming. The writing gods decided to stop by, and you try and be there when the muse decides she wants to hang around with you. It became quite exciting because we had no idea we were cutting a new record. It just grabbed me by the throat, really."

"to venus and back" is Amos's fifth Atlantic solo release, following "LITTLE EARTHQUAKES" (1992), "UNDER THE PINK" (1994), "BOYS FOR PELE" (1996), and "from the choirgirl hotel" (1998).
