Transcript

Many thanks to Elena Achilleus, Mary Brandenburg, Misha WhiteMagpie, Tina and Mike Pastore (Brambles) for sending me this transcript!

Regis: Tori Amos, musical prodigy, started when she was just 2 years old has since become a prolific song writer and powerful performer. Now here's Tori with one of the songs from her new CD Sorta Fairytale.....Tori Amos.

Tori plays.....

After the break...

Regis~I was just telling Tori that I met some kids in the audience-

Kelly~Yes!

Regis~who flew here from Israel. . .and they came here to see your show today and then they're going down to Flordia-

Tori waves and makes a cute face to the audience, I suppose in the direction of these kids.

R~to go on tour with you!

K~It must make you feel so good that people will travel the world to be with you!

R~Not only that! But, what about Letterman falling in love with you last nite?!

T blushes and grins.

R~What was that about?

T~He is heaven!

R~Did he frighten you?!

All laugh.

T~Oh no! (sly cutesy look)

R~When he peered at you with those glasses? (Makes funny snorting noises at Tori)

T~I think that he's a very sexy man-

Kelly laughs and gasps a little.

R~No kidding!?

T~His mind is sexy. (cute look)

R~Ya, but the rest of him. . .

All laugh.

T~But, you know, the mind can do a lot to a woman!!!

R~You've got quite a mind on there yourself, baby! (Mock hitting on Tori.)

Tori turns to the audience and blushes and puts her hands up to her head.

R~Give us the philosophy of this album-(Holds up SW.)

T~This is a story. A narrative. A sonic novel. . .Scarlet is our main character-

K~Who is Scarlet?

T~She's my alter-ego-

K~Oh! So, Scarlet is you?

T~Well, my alter ego-

K~Oh, you're alter you.

T~You see she. . .she has 4 lovers so husband at home knows that Scarlet is not me. (grins)

Kelly gasps.

R~(to Kelly) That is exactly what you need!

K~I need an alter ego!

All laugh.

R~So, that's the whole story? This is Scarlet's travels through life?

T~Through America. . .it's a road trip, a woman alone, and she meets different people and she questions what she believes in.

K~So, I know you started playing when you wre 2. Your daughter is 2. Does she play as well?

T~She plays radiators!

All laugh.

T~So, we'll be out any where, and she'll go, (pretends to play piano on the top of her piano as Tash would) 'Maddy, the drummer!' and she says to me, 'C'mon, mommy! Let's make a song!'

K~That's so great!

R~Well, Tori, take us out here! (to commercial)

Tori looks to Jon and Matt and they begin ASF and Regis leans over Tori's shoulder and Tori shows him some notes to play in the song w/one hand as she plays w/the other hand and just as they go to commercial, you can hear him miss a note. . .it's kind of funny!Tori starts intro for Sorta Fairytale and Regis leans over and helps her out by hitting a key or two.

After the break you see Tori playing [jazzy] with her leg propped up on the piano and swinging her hair...[just like old times!] She was playing the into to Wednesday.

Commentary from a Toriphile at the taping

From Sharon (aka Tickle My Tori):

Regis & Kelly was fun fun fun! Myself and Carole (PowerPuffPele) treked into NYC at 5am and stood outside in freezing snow/rain/hail (we're troopers!) thinking that there would be a line. No one showed up till 6:30am! Long story short, it was a small attendance and everyone on stand-by got in.(they did only take us in numerical order 1st come 1st served-the standby tix were numbered) Regis & Kelly did the show then Tori finished it, she looked lovely! She was joking around with Regis & Kelly on the commercial breaks. Regis was teasing from the get go about how David Letterman flirted with Tori. From what I could overhear, they wanted her to close out the show solo, but she didn't/wouldn't. I'm not sure, but I thought that was interesting. So, she was playing Wednesday for the rest of the time. She was bouncing around and very bubbly & chipper during the commercial breaks.
