Musica Magazine (Italy)
Some time in 1996
Italian Ears With Feet heles has translated for me an article that appeared in the Italian magazine Musica sometime during 1996 while Tori was promoting her album Boys For Pele. If anyone knows the exact date of this article, please let me know. I placed it on the March 1996 page, but that is likely not correct!

Spin Magazine
March 1996

Tori made the cover of the March 1996 issue of Spin Magazine. The article and interview is called The Volcano Lover, and was written by Francesca Lia Block. This issue is also important because of the very favorable review of Boys For Pele appearing on page 109. It was rated 9 out of 10, a scoring that they call Near Perfect!

"I think that people who can't believe in faeries aren't worth knowing."

Addicted To Noise Reviews Boys For Pele
Tired of reading reviews by critics who don't get it? Try this GREAT review. The article says at the end, "Amos is not known for making people comfortable by singing nice little prepackaged songs, and truly appreciating her music takes effort. Listening to "Pele" repeatedly is the key; nothing will be obvious the first time around. But as time goes on, the puzzle will begin to piece itself together. Secret messages will be decoded, mysterious languages will unfold and the album's numerous namedrops (Big Bird and Gladys Knight among them) will begin to take on unimaginable dimensions. The sensual songstress is flowering and changing before our eyes. One lyric in "Father Lucifer" warns, "Nothing's gonna stop me from floating." After the darkness comes the light, after the pain comes new fire. After two years of silence, Tori Amos is back."

Details Magazine
March 1996

The article is called Magical Mystery Tori. An interviewer goes shopping with Tori during the interview. They discuss her album Boys For Pele, as well as the art of buying shoes.

The line I found most amusing was, "When explaining themselves, most people take you from point A to point B. Tori's method is to stand on point B, waving her arms, saying, "Hey. Can you guess how I got here?"
