"Scarlet's Walk" (Epic, $18.98) - Tori
Amos
Tori Amos' latest
album of symphonic piano-based pop, "Scarlet's Walk," is an
aural journal of a fictional heroine's American Odyssey.
"Scarlet's
Walk" takes the listener from the serendipity of "Amber
Waves" and the folksy tableau of "Crazy" to the
meditative chorus of "Wampum Prayer," the respite of
"Virginia" and the transient nature of "Gold
Dust."
Amos' voice and piano
create settings, characters and stories within the ongoing narrative,
and it's a wondrous thing to hear. Musical highlights include
"Wednesday," an upbeat Paul McCartney-esque jaunt with some
excellent electric guitar.
