Added September 21, 1998

I have been informed a three new or relatively new songbooks for sale containing sheet music and photos. They are the Tori Amos Musical Anthology, from the choirgirl hotel songbook, and the Great Expectations songbook. You can find out more about them below, and I also strongly encourage you to visit the Here, In My Head: My Tribute To Tori Amos web site which has a section on songbooks with details about these and all of Tori's older songbooks as well. Special thanks to Audrey for keeping up with all this stuff!

The Tori Amos Musical Anthology

A new sheet music songbook called the Tori Amos Musical Anthology is now available from various stores and online vendors. It contains sheet music covering all of Tori's albums (including YKTR) as well as some B-sides. The book costs around $28. It includes a song called "Rubies and Gold" which was written by Tori and her brother Mike Amos in 1982. The collection is a 204 page oversized paperback with lots of color TORI pictures, some never published before (many from when Tori was a child.)

The book is from Amsco Publications and the ISBN numbers are:

US : 0.8256.1663.8
UK : 0.7119.6941.8

The songs in it are:SATY, Happy Phantom, Mother, Precious Things, Winter, CG, Baker Baker, The Waitress, Past the Mission, Space Dog, CALS, Prof. Widow, FAther Lucifer, Hey Jupiter, Putting the Damage On, Floating City, Etienne, Sweet Dreams, Take to the Sky, Honey, Mary, Baltimore, Rubies and Gold, Spark, and Northern Lad.

You can order it through various vendors, including Amazon.com. All of these songs are featured in previous Tori songbooks, except "Rubies & Gold," which is unique to this collection. I have been told that some of the photos are really nice and never before published!

Ears With Feet Niki (rabbit) sent me the lyrics to "Rubies and Gold" which I include below. Tori was only about19 years old when she wrote this song with her brother:

    rubies and gold
    star of my moonlight
    warmer then roses in spring
    the kingdoms were sold
    to hold their beauty, well
    i'd sell my life anyway
just to say i held their heart in my arms
    there's strength in my soul

    rubies and gold
    are you to me
you're a jewel upon my chest
warming my heart with your kissses,
    a peaceful way to rest
    fulfilling my life long wishes

    and silently you're watching me
stroking my cheek with your hand
your eyes are deep yet filled with tears
i've never seen so much love in a man

    rubies and gold
    star of my moonlight
    warmer than roses in spring
    the kingdoms were sold
    to hold their beauty, well
    i'd sell my life anyway
just to say i held their heart in my arms
    there's strength in my soul

    Rubies and Gold
    you are to me

Here is a description of this songbook from Toriphile Stephanie Skelton:

There is now sheet music for choirgirl available- I bought the book in the UK last weekend. It contains all the songs, but the piano parts are fairly mundane- for example Black Dove begins with the right hand playing Tori's ostinato-effect, but lapses into the tune after the first verse. I was prepared for the piano part to be less exciting than usual, given the new mix with the band, but was actually quite disappointed, especially by the lack of discography, which has previously been included in album books, and new artwork, which seems to be exactly that in the CD.

Great Expectations Songbook

Toriphiles Audrey & Dustin Hillman tell me about a Great Expectations songbook that includes piano/vocal/guitar for "Siren". To see what else this songbook includes, go to the Here, In My Head: My Tribute To Tori Amos web site.
